I have a 2000 RS with 13,000. This morning to work my check engine light came on. I have heard that people have been getting recall letters about O2 sensors. I have not recieved one. When I took it in I told the service advisor about the O2 problem and it might be it. The Service Manager was standing near by and told me that Subaru has not issued any recall on the sensors, and told me basically I was stupid. So, does anyone have a recall letter that they can e-mail me or fax me a copy of it to basically throw it in his face? Also, has anyone not recieved the recall letter and the sensor go bad on them?

Thanks

Chin

I just got mine this weekend! I went in about a month ago and received the same treatment, should be interesting to see their reaction now. I don't have the letter with me, but I should tomorrow. Send me your fax number.

No scanner or fax, but tell him he needs to do his research before telling people they're wrong. The recall went out at least a month ago.

I had the check engine light come on in my Forester last month. This was the second time it's been in for the check engine light. First time at 6,000 mi a new ECU & O2 sensor fixed it. Took it to the dealer this time & asked them about the recall. He looked at me like I was stupid. Well they replaced another O2 sensor, this time at 28,000 mi. The next day I get a call from the local zone rep, he asks me if I just had my car in for service. I says yes & then he tells me that they are having problems with O2 sensors. Then he says they just put another defective one in. He said he could tell by the part#. He says this recall is making it's way around the country at differant times. One region at a time because they don't have enough good sensors to go around. He told me I'd be hearing from Subaru about April 1 in the form of a recall letter. Well here I am on April 23 with no recall letter. I guess he'll call me to say April fool. I don't want to start paying for these bad sensors when I'm out of warranty.
I'm done venting now.

I just got mine this weekend too.

I had mine replaced at 80 miles, but I think I'll have it replaced again.
The recall says they should give you a "certificate" stating that it was done.
I don't have a certificate.
So, I'm not totally sure I have an improved 02 sensor. I have the darn hesitation, maybe this will help.

Just so you have an idea of people from which states are getting a recall leter. I just got mine this weekend.
Seems like the west cost people got theirs earlier.

I appreciate all your help everyone. It ticks me off the way the service manager acted. The truth is we could tell them more about our cars than they can. Also, Chin thank you for being able to send me a copy of the recall letter to shove in his face. I e-mailed you my fax number.

I got mine replaced about 1000 miles in. The service dept knew all about it and said that "I wasn't exactly the first person to have this problem". They've had to replace a LOT of them. Subaru of Nashua seems to have stocked up on them. They just slapped it in that day. No problems since and combined with the Amsoil filter, I'm getting really good mileage to boot! Never got the letter either...

I had mine changed at 30k - never had the light come on.

No - it won't cure the hesitation problem. It's just an inherent problem with the 2.5

I didn't get the letter, but had my Service Manager, Bruce at West Houston Subaru run my vin and learned the car had an S/F sensor recall. maybe that's why your dealer doesn't acknowledge the issue, 'cause they're looking at the wrong part. O2 vs S/F sensor.

I got the letter about a month ago, and then got the sensor replaced at that time. They kept the letter, though. Either way, the service dept. near me said that they can look it up in their computer (by VIN) to see if your particular car was recalled.

Got mine about a month ago.
No light w/ 34k but had it changed anyway...runs smoother that's for sure!!
I'll try to scan it for those who know what to look for but your VIN number will do....

Ok..I scanned it but I'm having problems loading it in the members section...
If anybody wants, I can email it to them or have someone post it here...
Let me know...

Got my front O2 sensor recall letter on Saturday, got it replaced yesterday. I've got 27,000 miles and never had any CE lights.

I think the recall campaign# is something like WX-W80, the dealer I went to had just received two boxes of the "new" O2 sensors specifically for the recall.

We got the recall for my wife's 2000 Outback wagon back in January. Finally got it taken care of late in March. They must be doing lots of them at our dealership, because we had to make an appointment 2 weeks in advance and they didn't have any loaner cars available until sometime in April (despite their motto of "service loaners for life"). Never got a CE light, but I figured it's best to get things like that taken care of while the car is under warranty.

The recall says they should give you a "certificate" stating that it was done.
I don't have a certificate.

The letter says this under "Residents of California/Massachusetts" so I'm not surprised you didn't get a certificate.

My letter says "Service program WXW-80" though I'm not sure how knowing this will help. Do the dealerships get notified of this recall under that ID? Common sense would say they would, but since when do common business practices adhere to common sense? http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif

You get a letter from SOA if you are affected and are the original owner of the car. If you did not get a letter, you don't have the recall.

I got my letter and when I went in, I forgot to bring it with me. They knew about the O2 sensor recall and was able to verify my car by looking up my vin on the internet on some sort of database. I didn't get the check engine light and I have 28000 on the car.
