View Full Version : GEICO Price Increase?
Yotsuya 12-28-2000, 07:37 PM Got home today to find a nice surprise from GEico; my rates increased. Why? Nothing I had done, said they guy when I called to ask. It seems Chicago is just too dangerous to own a car. My monthly rate went up seom $80 per month. This is, of course, totally unacceptable, and I'll be looking for new insurance tomorrow.
I was just wondering if any other GEICO customers got a similar rise in their rates.
T-WRX 12-28-2000, 07:47 PM I did when I moved from Gurnee to Park City. My rates went up 40%. So I changed to Allstate. Then when I moved from Park City to Grayslake, it was back to Geico for the lowest rates.
Go figure.
It pays to shop around. Please check out the IL Governor's site to shop insurance companies - they have a great rate comparison. PM me if you can't find it, I've got it bookmarked at work.
Midwayman 12-28-2000, 09:02 PM Go figure.... They did the dame thing to me, though it was only 10% or so.. I thought most insurance companies decreased rates as time went on. Dropped Geico as well...
What is that site BTW? I turn 25 recently and its time to compare rates again.
tomrichardson 12-28-2000, 09:10 PM Wouldn't have anything to do with all the kids that are totaling their Imprezas lately, would it? AARRRGGGGHHHH!!!
Drive safe people!!
suby ej25 12-28-2000, 10:24 PM does any one know why geico doesn't cover people in new jersey?....well actually...why don't any of the cheaper insurance companies cover people in new jersey...jersey can't be that bad
stever 12-28-2000, 10:26 PM Geico just plain blows. Pay the extra $$$ for any other insurance, it's worth it.
I had an accident a couple of years ago while insured by Geico. The front end of my Yellow M3 was about 2 feet shorter and pushed about a foot to the right. Geico wouldn't total the car despite over $15,000 in damage. After 5 months in one body shop (a Geico "authorized" shop), it was "finished". They painted the front fenders, hood, airdam and the doors but didn't blend into the rear fenders and didn't paint the side skirts. So I was stuck with a two-tone car. Geico stood behind the shop and said that if I wanted to go ahead and sue them, be my guest. They also claimed that the car was repaired to a commercially acceptable standard. They claimed that the car doesn't have to be repaired to the condition it was in before the accident. This came from the district supervisor.
To sue them for the damages, I would have to pay off the $15,000 in body shop bills and then sue for the entire amount. If I didn't pay the body shop, they threatened to put a mechanic's lien on my car, which would have caused BMW to reposess my car and completely f**k my credit, etc.
Anyway, sorry for the rant, but I feel the need to warn the world about Geico. Funny thing is, I never heard any horror stories about Geico until after my incident. Since then, I've heard nothing but horror stories.
And, by the way, this happened in NY ... which has the lamest laws for this kind of stuff.
Can someone help me down from my soapbox?

8Complex 12-28-2000, 10:30 PM This is the reason I'm sticking with my current provider, even if my rates are going up in January due to their lame-ass BS plan they're instating.
No accidents on record (nothing with damage), and hopefully I never will.
SkToBe 12-28-2000, 10:35 PM I believe that NJ has the highest insurance rates in the country (on average). I think that NJ also has the highest number of accidents per capita... I thought that your governor was going to try to do something about it. (You know, what's her name...)

Yotsuya 12-28-2000, 10:53 PM I'm quite unhappy about this rate increase. I've been with GEICO since I bought my first car five years ago in Colorado. Five years, no tickets, and they have the gall to raise prices over 50%, even when I don't move. It's not like there's been a riot or anything around here for the last two years. I'm still mad, and just have to get it out of my system.
Ah, just another chunk of feces to stink up my quest for slack, and my damn CE light's still on. Got to call Schaumburg maņana.
Mike Smith 12-29-2000, 04:43 AM Stay away from Geico if you can - they are big-time supportes of police radar and laser speed detection. They have provided many with FREE units to catch speeders. Of course that, in turn, drives up insurance rates in general. They are NOT on our side!
Kevin Thomas 12-29-2000, 06:19 AM Of course if the keystone cops chase you like in Australia, they'll crash up their caprices and crown victorias and their insurance rates will increase too. It's a win/win for Geico. Hooray!
chuckles 12-29-2000, 06:49 AM I am Anti-Geico. They were raising my rates almost every month it seemed. They just got done sticking it to my old man for his windshield that was craked by a rock.
T-WRX 12-29-2000, 07:36 AM Here is that site by the Governor's office in Illinois for comparing insurance rates . . .

01 Black RS 12-29-2000, 07:45 AM hey Yotsuba, I had the same thing happen to me with Geico. They raised mine about the same 75 or so a month. Called them up to cancel and then they say your now a "gold" member and can get you a special rate. Hah I told them to forget it, they should have lowered mine instead of raising it. I have a local number for an insurance company, pm me if you need it.
montgog 12-29-2000, 09:41 AM See if you Qualify for USAA. They are the best insurance on the planet.
