View Full Version : Number to SOA? Gotta few words for them...
SubyPrez20 12-21-2000, 03:11 PM There service departments are not worthy of being open at , at least two locations here in PA. There slow, rude, and dont seem to care much about there customers. If there going to be in business, they should realize ALL customers come first, not just pontential new ones.
Long story short, for WHATEVER reason, my tranny is not covered according to them, and i've just about had it with SO(central Pa), and possibly SOA in total.
I could email them, i guess if i knew there address, but would not recieve a reply for years most likely...
anyone with this info, please distribute.
Thanks,
Suby
STiShawn 12-21-2000, 03:12 PM Hey Suby, go to the SOA web site, numbers and e-mails are listed there.
SubyPrez20 12-21-2000, 03:14 PM working on downloading flash so i can enter there site..
thanks so far,
Suby
SubyPrez20 12-21-2000, 04:38 PM Looks like i'll have to wait till friday, its past 5pm here on the east coast, and it seems the world shuts down at that time over here.

Eric SS 12-21-2000, 10:12 PM It sucks that they will not warranty your tranny. I find it odd that they will void the warranty for a short shifter but THEY (SOA) sell a short shifter for our cars that doesn't void the warranty! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/mad.gif
Eric
WRC666 12-22-2000, 05:57 AM What? They did void your warranty over the shortshifter? Wasn't there a letter from a SOA rep a while ago stating that aftermarket parts do not void the warranty unless they're the cause for the failure?
My dealer was complaining about the shifter as well, but its not over yet and they are usually pretty cool. What was their reason for voiding? Interference, the gears do not engage properly? Bull*****, with a shortshifter you get the engagement earlier than with the stock one and unless you have scatchmarks on the linkage the function is not compromised.
Hope SOA helps you out.
Remember, there are so many cool cars coming out within the next couple of years that probably don't NEED mods, Subaru is not the only brand in the world...

SubyPrez20 12-22-2000, 07:07 AM They said "It doesnt appear to be Subaru's fault the gears went out." Well, my question is, shouldnt they have to PROVE to ME, that the gears were my fault? What if a small piece of metal broke off, got lodged blah blah blah, and started messing things up on the inside or whatever?
Either way, BEFORE i took the car in, I put the stock shifter back in. So they wouldnt use that as an excuse, but still..
I am calling that number now, since its after 9am, here on the east coast.
Thanks,
Andy
WRC666 12-22-2000, 07:13 AM Wow, that's even worse!
They have to prove to you that its not their fault. How can they say that? Did they open the tranny and then told you or a "I just say that because I want to " statement?
Tell SOA, I sent them a mail concerning all the 5th gear problems.
Guess thats why leasing is so popular.
Owning gives you only trouble.

gaylemd 12-22-2000, 07:16 AM Andy,
Let us know how the knuckleheads handle it. Hope you have good luck with SOA. If not, contact SEMA and they will help you. BTW, I'll pull the information off their website on aftermarket parts and the responsibilities of the OEM.
Mike Gayle
gaylemd 12-22-2000, 07:23 AM Andy,
Go to http://www.sema.org/ under the Consumer main link to Warranty Denial; your options and steps to take are laid out there. Hope this helps.
Mike Gayle
SubyPrez20 12-22-2000, 09:53 AM Well, I contacted them (SOA) through the 800 number, told them my problems, and she is contacting / researching etc.
will keep you posted.
If this doesnt work, next step is
Better Business Bureau
or
State Attorney General
With no car, that means no work, which means nothing but time to complain http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smile.gif

MattC 12-22-2000, 05:36 PM SubyPrez20,
Remember me from Carlisle? I was the MY99 Rally Blue Turbo that was there. I had my tranny warrentied even with the turbo on the car. First gear was making some really bad noises. I don't believe it had anything to do with the power. Neither did SOA, and they warrentied it. You can have them contact the Pine Belt Subaru in Brick NJ for details regarding the trans, if they don't have it on file.
MattC
SubyPrez20 12-22-2000, 06:00 PM I do remember you. After looking at the car, they say it was "beat", and that was the cause...
They and SOA, are firm on that it seems.

ANZAC_1915 12-22-2000, 06:13 PM Another idea is to get the dealer to have the area service manager/rep for Subaru meet you at the dealership and talk to him (calmly) in person about it.
They guy out here on the PNW who approves or denies these things is very reasonable and quite a nice fellow.

LouRawlls 12-22-2000, 07:40 PM I just asked my dealer if aftermarket parts would boid any warenty...he said yes. I asked hime what were the spt parts for then??? he said dumbly oooh yea I think you can use them...then someother guy chimes in...but they have to be dealer installed...morons...I know the are fibbing soo bad.
Me experience with the dealership is that they will do anything so that you have to give them money everytime you show up...BUT my experience with SOA is not too bad, so make sure you get them involved and I hope they cover it, maybe even mention how long this thread is getting. one of the greatest features of the imprza is the potential it has to be worked on, it would be bad publicity if people were to think that work couldn't be done to the car without voiding the warrenty....ramble ramble blah blah
MattC 12-22-2000, 10:16 PM They said the car was beat on? What is the basis for this conclusion? How can you tell if the trans was beat on without opening it up? I would really start raising hell. Did someone from SOA see your car, or are they just taking the dealers word for it? My car only had 16,000 miles at the time, but if its not a wearing part like a syncro I believe it should be replaced.
MattC
WRXPRESS 12-23-2000, 01:10 AM That's really lame man. Good luck on the whole nightmare.
SubyPrez20 12-23-2000, 08:56 AM Yes, after opening it up, the dealer has deteremined, that they dont see it being caused by a subaru malfunction, rather by "my treatment of the gears".
I have 29000 miles on the car. I canceled my extended warrenty (since it would be useless), got my money back for that. Now since I have the understanding that Subaru will not keep there agreement on any warrenty issues, i might as well start modding the car. However, a tranny will cost 3 grand or so, which is a set back for most anyone. I will get a tranny from someone soon, and i have ordered an aftermarket clutch. ****T, while I'm going in debt, might as well order a turbo too http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/frown.gif

Dear Mr. Westhafer:
Thank you for your recent e-mail to Subaru of America, Inc. We appreciate you
taking the time to contact us. We are sorry to learn of the difficulties you
are experiencing with your 2000 Subaru Impreza RS. The clutch warranty can be
a little difficult to understand. There is one wear component in the clutch
and that is the clutch disk. The clutch disk is covered by a 12-month/12,000
miles warranty. The other clutch components are covered by either the
3year/36,000-mile warranty or the 5year/60,000-mile warranty. When the
clutch fails, the dealer is able to find out the cause of the failure by
tearing down the clutch. When they tear down the clutch, if a part covered
by the warrant caused the other components in the clutch to fail, it will be
a warranty repair. In your case, the clutch disk was worn and caused the
other components to fail. With 29,000 miles on the vehicle, you are out of
the 12 month/12,000 mile wear warranty on the disk. Our records show that you
have wo!
rked with a representative and we have researched this with Faulkner Subaru.
Unfortunately this would not be a situation in which we could assist. If you
have any further questions, or should you need further assistance, please do
not hesitate to contact us at Subaru Customer/Dealer Services at
1-800-SUBARU3 (800-782-2783) and refer to case number xxxxxx. Thank you for
the opportunity to be of service.

My reply:
Understood, though it wasnt the Clutch that was in question, it was the
Transmission. And since Faulkner has informed me that the vehicle would be
out at least 4-6 weeks, because of a backorder on transmissions, which leaves
me with no transportation, thus no work. It was the hope that maybe, if not
at least for the poor service i have recieved in the past, that SOA would at
least help with the rental car situation. That was my only real concern, but
now it has gotten to the point, that a 4000+ dollar invoice is headed my way,
which wasnt planned. Since SOA seems consistant, not to help either way, I
am forced to cancel my Extended warrenty, and with the recent problems, my
father has decided against signing for the extended warrenty for his 2001
Forrester, as well as my mother with her 2000 Forrester, as well as three
other co-workers. The reliablility, assurance and overall quality, and
expectations of Subaru in general, has declined, with the help of the local
dealerships, to the point where nobody wa
nts to deal with the headaches, 3 hour oil changes, and poor service. It is
a shame that the dealerships in this area do business like they do, because I
am aware from numorous owners in other areas of the country, there problems
are minimal, and there dealers take care of them with pride, and do
EVERYTHING possible to help there customers. With all these problems,
treatment ect. , Central Pa is on its way to converting Current and Potential
Subaru owners to shop for other manufactures.
Sincerely,
Andrew Westhafer
WRC666 12-23-2000, 08:24 PM Wow, that letter is similar to what they sent me. I explained the rising number of complaints about dealers with no technical understanding and they refer me to my dealership which would be the right address to talk to. Standard letter, no interest in customer service.
Thats sad, because it will keep the RS crowd from buying other Subarus when they get older.
If I break something because I drive too hard or I race and crash, it'll be my pleasure to pay. Noone wants to cheat(must be dreaming...), but if its not my fault that damn warranty better gets used.
Madza and Audi and VW and so fourth make nice cars, too.

ANZAC_1915 12-24-2000, 05:52 PM Well that's all very interesting because Subaru replaced my clutch disk, pressure plate, flywheel etc all under warranty at 18,000 miles. (though they said the problem was caused by the pressure plate).
Glenn
kevinsUBARU 12-24-2000, 06:00 PM That was a good response you wrote. I waited 2.5 hours for a ****in oil change so the dealer gave it to me for free. I scheduled it for 9AM ans I got there at 8:45. They went on coffee break for 15-20 minutes and then picked up on the work that they had been working on. I think Ill be making my next oil change at 9AM http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/biggrin.gif
LouRawlls 12-24-2000, 07:54 PM That sounds like crap to me...
and I thought getting it bad with my dealership was an isolated thing.
Maybe you should email a link to this thread, because I used to have a high regard for subaru, but this is changing my view.
I use to think that i would stay strictly subaru for a while, but customer service is important to me. oh well...AUDI make nice cars
SubyPrez20 12-25-2000, 07:44 AM Heck, when it comes to customer service, it seems even the local HONDA dealership makes out better than Subaru...
keep ya all posted,
suby
