View Full Version : why do so many people who drive hondas hate impreza bluesubie 08-28-2000, 02:12 PM Because they're all closet Subie lovers! A friend of mine that has had 3 honda's said to me "Damn!I wish I would've known about Subaru's a few years ago." Dennis ImprezaRS2000 08-28-2000, 02:18 PM Yah, they're jealous. http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/biggrin.gif But their cars are good, too (not as much so in the winter, however). SilverSuby 08-28-2000, 02:22 PM Ever notice that most of their posts don't really make much sense? This one doesn't stray too far from their norm I guess. Seriously...probably jealousy....look at the price tag of a Suby...then of a Civic...which is more affordable? Especially for younger kids as the Hon-dah buyers usually are.. Not to bash them, because they are nice cars, and many nice people drive them....I guess the nice and mature ones just never post anything. dead-eye 08-28-2000, 02:23 PM To me it seems that people who drive Subarus hate Hondas (or Hon-duhs http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/wink.gif) a lot more than Honda owners hate Subarus. Of course, I don't know this for a fact since I don't frequent the Honda board; maybe there is a lot of Sube-bashing going on there. In any case, we need to look at ourselves before we bash anybody. Often, on this board, we make fun of Honda owners because of the ricey-ness which is endemic to that population. However, I've noticed that a small but significant portion of Subaru owners are pretty ricey. WRX stickers? WRC spoilers? STi badges? Colored hoses? Aggressive looking exhausts? All show and no go. I'm not trying to start a flame war. I just want to make sure we all see both sides. Arch 08-28-2000, 02:31 PM Maybe they don't know what the impreza is...that used to be the case for me. I thought subaru=wagons only. Not the mst aggressive image for a car company. Of course, I have now crossed sides and joined the rebellion to fight the empire! http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/wink.gif flanagan 08-28-2000, 02:32 PM Hey, Silver, I drive a Civic and I'm a nice guy! http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/smile.gif But I suppose I do fall into the prejudice that comes with owning a Civic and posting on a performance club's board. Normally "perfomance" is not a term used by Honda "enthusiasts" I've found. Terms like "phat ride", "slammed", and "thumpin' stereo" are tossed around more than "top-mount intercooler", "20mm rear sway bar", and "trunk monkey". The Honda crowd is similar to the Mustang and Mopar cromwds: they tend to be closed-minded towards other cars with the potential to be fast. (Notice I said "tend to be" rather than "everyone is", I know there are exceptions to every rule, myself being one of them). If it doesn't have 2 12" subs and is an inch from bottoming out, many Honda owners don't want to hear about it, ITR owners excepted. impreza_power 08-28-2000, 02:34 PM yea i think hondas are to common an so are ford mustangs subaru is an all around car turning water snow winter its all around hondas are lets say one dimensional but i love subaru im glad my uncle got me one for my graduation i cant stop driivng it its like a toy much more funnier tehn my stuttering integra Fish 08-28-2000, 02:42 PM eh, I'm a regular over at clubsi and they like the impreza over there.. I have yet to have a bad comment aimed at my car.. there is actually a thread running over there right now... "best looking imports" and the RS is consistantly showing up near the tops of people's lists.. usually 3-4.. Hucker 08-28-2000, 02:51 PM Holy giant sentence Bat-Man........ Snoopy 08-28-2000, 03:03 PM Heh....similar thing happened at superhonda.org. Someone asked a question about the Impreza's potential and I posted some info - WITHOUT ONE COMMENT ABOUT CIVICS, and then a number of Civic owners flamed me as well as the moderator deleting my message! One guy even said that he was so pissed off(his name is N-gin) that he called my car GAY and he was gonna go out and key a Subaru! How's that for perpetuating the steretype of Civic owners! Wonderful crowd. Pinoy 08-28-2000, 03:13 PM I also think that some of the members of OUR board tend to hate on anything other than Subaru's. I've owned both a 94 GSR and my 2.5RS. Both are really good cars. We all can make good points/bad points for both. Its just a matter of the people who are in the know, and the people who aren't. For the people that do, they generally know what the Impreza is and the what its heritage is. As do Subaru owners know that there are 9 sec. 1/4 mile hondas out there. So bashing is to be expected. But there is nothing funnier, than riding in 4 cylinder civic hatchback and welding the doors shut on a supercharged Camaro SS from a dead start. http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/smile.gif Snoopy 08-28-2000, 03:21 PM 9 second Civic? Are those street legal? Pinoy 08-28-2000, 03:24 PM Hell nooooooo!!!!!!!! LOL But that race I speak of happened in Sylmar, about 2 weeks ago at the street races. AHEM AHEM I mean street legal drags. Uh okay let me shut up now. Sup Snoop Snoopy 08-28-2000, 03:34 PM Pinoy! What's the color code for that car again? That's too nice! It would look awesome with my Volk Rays! delectron 08-28-2000, 03:40 PM Go look up the definition of the word "civic" and you'll understand. There is no such thing as a front wheel drive sports car. North Ursalia 08-28-2000, 04:00 PM Snoopy....86f Steel Blue Mica Matt Monson 08-28-2000, 04:35 PM It all depends on what boards you are talking about. I used to own several Hondas(actually still have one as a project car) and own a MY00 RS. I was into the ultimate performance, so I frequented the Hybrid board-all about engine swapping and using a variety of engine parts to up performance. The old guard all has great respect for my RS. I was unique over there because I was drving 2 AWD civics and they respected that too. I couldn't hop up as much as them because of the AWD, but they thought my projects were cool. It does depend some on age, I think. I visit some "younger" Honda boards from time to time and the ignorance is huge. They don'y know that much about their own car let alone other cars out there. I don't hesitate to correct them. I just insulate myself by A. knowing my facts, not he said she said. B. I don't even throw in what I drive unless it is relevant. Honda just released a 2.3VTEC AWD Accord wagon that puts out well over 200hp. If they ever come to the states, my Subbie might get sold. Honda's are kick ass vehicles. Superu 08-28-2000, 04:39 PM Scoop Envy. uncleho 08-28-2000, 06:37 PM I've been at many sites from Honda to VW and the arrogance can be shared equally, although the non-Honda sites tend to focus their hate and criticism towards Honda. I suppose being the "chosen-one"(rich aftermarket) for subcompacts has its drawbacks. I offend believe there is an sub-conscious jealousy, but know you all will refute me(for example, the other day I read a remark about how Honda's suspensions are inferior to Subarus. Puh-leeease! Where can you get semi-wishbones in a subcompact? My Z24 has an inferior suspension. My Civic has no parallel in its class. As for Subaru... its a fine set-up, but not superior). I've always had a penchant for subcompacts, because of my frugal side... but everyone likes a sporty car, also. This is why my rides have so far been: a Datsun 510, a Honda Civic Si(earlier gen.), and now a '96 Z24. My next car is a toss-up between a Jetta 1.8T and the new Impreza WRX... with the WRX having the upper hand and fist. I read the same, "Why is it that [insert 'domestic', 'Honda', 'Mustang', etc.)] drivers are such a$$holes?" on all the non-Honda sites. If ClubSi seems anymore vicious, maybe it's the simple fact that the sheer volume of Civic drivers WILL result in a larger volume of pubescent machismo. But I must think the percentage of machismo is the same for Impreza-Rs and VWVortex as it is for Si. Your smaller volume makes for fewer dB's. Show your class by walking the talk(i.e. dropping the immature bashing some of you do) and let the teen angst at Si(or wherever else) make fools of themselves. RidinLow 08-28-2000, 07:10 PM I dunno, it really depends on the driver. I was sitting in traffic this weekend when 2 guys in a fly Si pulled up alongside me & tried to get me to join their car club. Damn this car gets so much attention. Just today, a guy in an ITR tried to run away from me and some kids on bikes asked me to rev my engine. Kinda cool, but it sucks by being so recognizeable, especially since I set off my neighbor's car alarm every time I drive by. http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/frown.gif http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/smile.gif ~G Gambit 08-28-2000, 07:11 PM 9 seconds civics are nothing compared to those 4 or 3 seconds far out drag Firebirds or them Chargers. I was watching this domestic drag war show and they hit the 1/4 in 3.8ticks!!! I can't believe it!!! http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/eek.gif That's almost 3 times faster than your 9 second civic. http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/wink.gif I have alot of respec tto those domestic drag cars now. And I don't mean Top Fuel Dragsters... NickSTi 08-28-2000, 07:48 PM I must agree the H&A crew are the people you love to hate. Every car club but the club of people who drive em bash the honda guys. Hondas are nice nice nice cars and what some people do to em is down-right molestation http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/biggrin.gif On another note, (I better equip my flame armor, magic shield, and hat of happiness) I saw a black civic with the Type R srickers on the side and it looked good. I think that if u are copying a car which EVERYONE thinks looks good, and the car is not sold in the US (Hence they are NOT trying to fool people like a gs-r trying to look like a type r so to pass itself off) then more power to you. Just dont think you are going to beat another stock civic by 3 car lengths. http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/wink.gif full disclosure: I have a replica wing, and STi badging. But who said anything about wanting to be a WRX... why lower my standards http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/wink.gif NickSTi - with a bigger turbo, IC and engine than that rice rocket WRX. impreza_power 08-29-2000, 01:52 AM i went to ahonda chat room an a car chat an i asked them what they thought of subaru impreza an they constintly called it down calling it pooparu it made me made because i hada acura an i love the subaru its smooth to ride an not that much noise an i feel its better then alot of cars tell me how whould you rank subaru??? Pinoy 08-29-2000, 08:09 AM Gambit- 3.8 ticks!!! DAAAAYYYYMMMMMMM!!!! Hell yeah thats fast! Almost unbelievably fast. Not even top fuel? We were at pomona last year and we saw a guy in a Grand National do a show run. He ran and when he got half way down the lane, he turned off the car and coasted the rest of the 1320. He still hit in the 11's!!! Everyone was amazed!!! Don't know what fuel he was running on. Much respect to the turbocharged v6. The 9 sec civics I speak of, is not mine. Though I wouldn't mind. There are 3 I know of for sure that are in the 9's. Here is one. Ed Bergenholtz's CRX http://scratch-pad.com/speedimage/cars/btl9902-edbox.jpg I had a discussion with my Camaro buddy about what was more impressive. A 4 cylinder front wheel drive ALL MOTOR 10 second Teg or a V8 rear wheel drive all motor camaro in the 10's Which one do you guys think? Subu WEX 08-29-2000, 08:15 AM I wish I had a civic, then I could get 10-15 HP just for stickers :P GTBGUY 08-29-2000, 08:32 AM Well, as an owner of both Hondas and Subarus, I love both cars in their respective ways. I have a '92 Si hybrid, '97 Accord EX-R, '98 Legacy L and a '99 Legacy 2.5GT. As for speaking from the standpoint of driving both brands of cars, I do have to say the build quality of the Hondas still out does Subaru (but then again, any Japanese car manufacturer can out do the American built cars). As for torque, I have to hand to to Subaru, but when it comes to shear acceleration, it's pretty hard to beat the high revving VTEC engines. Also, driving the Subarus on track is a totally different story compared to driving my Accord or Si. With the FF's you have to brake throughout the corner to maintain your line (e-brake assisted turns), in the Suby, you just mash the gas and steer the way you want to go! http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/biggrin.gif Just my 2 cents 8Complex 08-29-2000, 09:29 AM Almost every Honda driver that asks me what I drive replies with "damn, I want one of those cars". They all love them around here... they just don't often get them bought for them or handed down fomr mommy and daddy, though. |
