View Full Version : Grillcraft Project (everyone please read)
Fusion 09-13-2000, 02:51 AM A close friend of mine owns a company called Grillcraft in Los Angeles and he is planning on developing a line of grills for our cars! I am working with Grillcraft as they are using my car as a template. Please show your support and enthusiasm if you would like to see this type of product come to term! Grillcraft will also be at SEMA so for those of you that will be going get in touch with me via email so I can introduce you to them. Since there are relatively few of our cars in the market we will have to show that much more enthusiasm to motivate this project as well as future ones!
Thanks for you time guys!

Subu WEX 09-13-2000, 06:13 AM How far along are they in the project?
I was looking for grillcraft stuff for Imprezas before but only found honda etc related products.
Fusion 09-13-2000, 12:46 PM Right now they are taking measurements of my car. The next step will be actually building the grill. So they are pretty close to doing this, but they are a little hesitant because of the limited market for Subarus. That's why we need to show some enthusiasm to provide the incentive to spend the money to finish the product. http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/smile.gif

Peaty 09-13-2000, 02:41 PM It would be cool if they did make the effort to make them. I looked at their site when I got my RS but of course they didn't have an application. I even called and at the time there were no plans to make one. So I went and did my own version:
http://www.imprezawrx.org/modifications/AZScooby/Peaty/grillmod.html
Depending on how they look and where they go I'd be interested.
Rick Buckner 09-13-2000, 02:44 PM Grillcraft has some nice products.
Big Tee 09-13-2000, 04:15 PM I read about Peaty's mods a while ago and looked at Grillcraft's stuff to see if it could be adapted. I would definitely be interested. Someone requested grilles for the fog light cover area. That brought this question to mind...I have a MY98, the fog light area is quite different, is that actual grille area the same? I think it is.
B. Foyle 09-13-2000, 04:34 PM I might be interested in them as well, given a good price, though. It looks like they make quality products - I'm all for that! http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/biggrin.gif
Midwayman 09-13-2000, 04:35 PM I would be interested in those grills http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/smile.gif at least the lower opening on the bumper.
I want one. At least for the top, maybe the bottom too.
imprezive 09-13-2000, 08:13 PM Hey that's a good i dea I wonder why I didn't come up with that before....oh wait I did.

In all seriousnees. would it be possible for a kit that was back inside a couple inches?
imprezive 09-13-2000, 08:16 PM for once I thought I was gonna have something noone else had http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/mad.gif
omahasubaru 09-13-2000, 08:31 PM I'd be interested. I've been wanting to change/upgrade my grille, but have yet to find exactly what I'm looking for. I do want no Subaru emblem area, either open or with something interesting. I do remember seeing a grille somewhere that had a eblem shaped hole off to the side and not in the center, but don't know where I saw that.
Thanks!
Basshead 09-13-2000, 09:11 PM omfg..about time..hose mine off with rally blue pearl and you have yourself a customer
ImprezaRS dot com 09-14-2000, 01:05 AM Do they have a website to see what grils for other car's look like?
Larry www.ImprezaRS.com (http://www.ImprezaRS.com)
Fusion 09-14-2000, 01:08 AM Go to www.grillcraft.com (http://www.grillcraft.com) to see their other products. I've seen their shop and spoken with their engineers, they are very focused on producing only top quality products. If anyone will be at SEMA they will be able to see them in person.

Stranger 09-14-2000, 01:11 AM I would be interested in getting something like that http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/smile.gif
donjuan 09-14-2000, 01:14 AM Those are pretty sweet, I'd be interested...
Fusion 09-14-2000, 01:17 AM Stranger, they should have one ready by SEMA. That will probably be the earliest opportunity to see them. I'll keep everyone posted on the progress though.

8Complex 09-14-2000, 01:19 AM I've always liked the cleanliness that puts into the front end of the cars. Granted, it'd have to be flat black, or colormatched if I was feeling really ballsy, but yeah, thats pretty cool.
Fusion 09-14-2000, 01:22 AM Actually, I believe that they have several colors available, including a new silver (not just a grey). I am also working with them on the possibility of grills for the hoodscoop and vents. There's also a ram-air intake in the works. http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/smile.gif

dead-eye 09-14-2000, 01:26 AM I'd like to suggest that they use the grill pattern from the Ver 5 grill if they plan to make a cover for the opening on the 2.5RS bumper. Also, maybe they could also make foglamp covers in the same pattern for those of us who've removed our foglamps.
Fusion 09-14-2000, 01:28 AM Thanks Dead-Eye, I'll relay that info, that will definitely help them with the design process! http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/smile.gif

Fusion 09-14-2000, 05:12 AM I have a question for those of you who have 98 RS', is the grill opening (lower one) the same size and dimensions as the 99 and 00 openings? Thanks, this would help in ensuring that it will be applicable to all RS'. http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/smile.gif
Haig
8Complex 09-14-2000, 08:06 AM I don't believe the 98's front bumper is the same size opening as the 99-01's. Best off finding someone with a 98 to measure as well, though I'm not sure they'd sell a lot for that year since so few were made.
Geoff 09-14-2000, 11:42 AM My opinion is that these grills are kinda lame... Has Grillcraft changed the way the grill is attached to the car? If I remember correctly it was tacked on to the bumper. Doesn't look that great, and has no performance advantage whatsoever IMHO.
Leonardo 09-14-2000, 12:27 PM Geoff: "and has no performance advantage whatsoever IMHO."
I'm in! No performance but the though of protecting the Air Condenser(?) and/or radiator makes it worth. Try looking at it now and I'll bet it has bent fins and bugs in it. Think what can protect all that if at a track day, someone blows a tire in front of you or kicks up some gravel.
I'm in, Black please!
Peace!
Leo
imprezive 09-14-2000, 12:57 PM I'll probably end up painting mine with a brighter metalic silver.
Geoff 09-14-2000, 02:17 PM I'm not trying to rain on Grillcraft's "bidniss." I remember when Grillcraft first came out with advertisements in Super Street a few years ago. It sure seemed like a trendy fashion item at the time for Civic owners to make their car look like a BMW M3. I'm not familiar with the grill's ability to deflect foreign objects, but I doubt it has enough strength to stop pieces of a tire from getting through.
Hey, if it floats your boat, then by all means go ahead!
Mayhew333 09-14-2000, 06:30 PM Im down with it too black please.
Chris
Peaty 09-14-2000, 10:03 PM >I have a question for those of you who have 98 RS', is the grill opening (lower one) the same size and dimensions as the 99 and 00 openings?
When I was making my grill mod I looked at Gary's <gg> 98 by my 99 to see if it would fit. It looks like it's a slightly different opening, but since mine go in the back they would fit. Obviously best to measure though. I was only eyeballing it.
Fusion 09-15-2000, 02:25 AM What about the grill behind the emblem? Is that the same across all years? I know that they won't want to pursue a line that cannot be used in most of the cars, i.e. if can only be used for the '98 then they probably won't build it. That's why I'm trying to figure out what is conserved so everyone can be able to use it. Thanks for your input guys, this stuff is essential to the development process! http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/smile.gif

scooby5 09-15-2000, 06:53 AM I got a Grille off <A HREF="http://www.powerengineering.co.uk/subaru/index.htm">Power Engineering</A> looks a lot like the grill on the WRC'99 car and the mesh is recessed somewhat compared to the standard one.
WRC666 09-15-2000, 06:57 AM Got myself a grill from sears, with sideburner and stuff. Cast aluminum, black, cool.
LOL
john seput 09-16-2000, 03:11 PM I already made mine. If you llok close at the lower grill, and side vents. Also opened the scoop, and put one in there. http://208.9.184.110/MembersList/ViewMemberPics.cfm?MemberID=473&PicNumber=5

Fusion 09-17-2000, 01:50 AM I spoke with Grillcraft the other day and they mentioned a new color. They said they will have a silver that looks metallic instead of grey, kind of like a titanium-look finish.
Haig
Fusion 09-18-2000, 12:31 PM Which tiny vents? The ones in the bumper corners? These might be too small to produce efficiently and they probably wouldn't look much different. Thanks for the advice though, keep it coming!
Haig
Robmat 09-21-2000, 08:27 AM I would definitely be interested in a set of black grills (upper and lower). Please let me know when you get more info.
