Default Mixing Methanol and Gasoline

I tried searching but did not find much.

Anyone have any success in mixing say 25% methanol in pump gas??

Should give effective octane of about 103 in 93 pump gas...

I wouldn't think that there would be a problem with seals or lubrication in the cylinder as you are still running 75% gasoline.

I am not sure if it would be more or less corrosive than E85?

The problem arises with having inconsistent amounts of methanol:gas with a setup like this.

Why would amounts be inconsistant... we are talking basic math here?

Not 100% sure on this but I do know myth is very carosive and could damage your fuel system.

Theres nothing better than straight race gas 109 octane is only like 3 dollars more per gallon than myth. But of course that changes daily. Last I herd it was about a month ago and it was $9 per gallon.

I was just going to start a thread on the exact same thing.

All i came up with from some google reading is that meth is corrosive.....but really didnt say what parts it would damage.

Since meth injection kits spray into the throttle body i dont think it could be anything in the motor.....

So its probably just the tank and/or fuel pump that may get damaged.

My question was gonna be "whats the difference between running e85 and straight methanol?"

I would think over time it would eat away any rubber seals in the fuel system that it makes contact with. I'd say the pump and regulators would see damage if it were used consistently.

It is true that E85 is much more practical than M85 because Ethanol is much less corrosive than Methanol.

But I am not talking about running 85% methanol.... just 10-20% as an octane booster.

10% should be fine, not sure how high you can go though or what the solubility of methanol in gas is.

Where I am from, methanol costs about 40% less than premium gas.

If you want to make an octane booster use Toluene or even Xylene. You can use Methanol, but the amount needed to significantly bump up the octane is enough to eat the fuel lines. Here is a nice table with different ratios and ingredients-

I know... I have used Toluene up to 30%, it works. In fact, I have a 200 liter barrel of the stuff in my garage, but methanol is much cheaper.
