Default weird boost problem.

my car threw a CEL and said that it was lean in bank one and maybe a bad MAF, after this the car ran like crap it stuttered under stress idled ruff it was weird. i changed the plugs got and got a smoke test done and there was a very very very small leak around the BOV. anywho the CEl went away and and the stutter went away kind of.... it still stutters a tiny bit but not to bad and not as often as it did previously. but when i get to peak boost in any gear it fluctuates like 5psi up and down up and down. and it only stutters when i have the car WOT.

any ideas as to what the hell this is? thanks for any info

the mods are TBE, recirculating BOV and a mild stage 2 tune

Clean out your MAF and check for vacuum leaks.

i cleaned the MAF and nothing happened so i bought a new one and nothing happened. got a smoke test and there was a tiny tiny leak around the BOV.. im going to get another gasket for that but is there anything else that could cause the problem?

before i changed the plugs the car was stuttering every time i got above boost. but now it only stutters at WOT. im not getting a CEL though and i just got my stage 2 tune right before i changed the plugs could it be the ECU trying to learn the map?

thanks

A leak around the bov will cause you not hit full boost.

well tonight my car threw a CEL again i havent been able to see what the code is yet but the code before was P0171 and it said lean in bank 1. the causes could be bad MAF, large vac leak, clogged injector and/or bad fuel pressure.

i changed the MAF and it still drove the same and my vac on my boost gauge is around 17ish so do you guys have any idea as to what to do next? check injectors, fuel pump?

thanks i also read that it could be a bad front o2 sensor....

any help would be awesome

yea man im wondering about this to still waiting on replys on mine that make sense some to but this kinda is a hard thing to look at specially leaks cuz they can be anywhere well i should say if your losing boost its all before the turbo. Ive gotta check my bov. what kind of Bov do you have. i have a Txs RFL and they are known to leak so i think thats where im gonna look im gonna tare my intake manifold off monday and look at the turbo and all. but check that bov

i have an agency power recirculating BOV and its tightened all the way down... i had a smoke test done and there was a tiny leak around that and im going to get a new gasket for it but yeah i may end up going to the the BPV but ill have to find one cuz my car came with the BOV on it.

but yeah its weird it just goes up and down up and down... so i dunno thanks for the recommendation

So you are getting boost spikes? The first time that happened to me, I replaced the turbo and it fixed it. The second third and fourth time it happened I just re flashed my ECU and that took care of the problem. Try a reflash, if that doesn't work, see if you can borrow a stock BPV from someone in our local forum. Just start small and don't buy things just to test.

^^^im in YOUR local forum haha... but yeah ill try a re-set tomorrow and see if that helps.. i cant really reflash the map because i dont know what the hell im doing and i dont have the cable to do so...

i had jokerDMX flash a map so maybe ill have to contact him.

*edit* cuz i put this similar thread in the RMIC and got a couple short answers for things to check(which i already checked) so i figured i'd put it here

Oh haha. Yeah get in contact with Joker and see if he will reflash it for you. Just tell him whats going on. And I have a td04 on my EJ20G I have sitting here, we can use the WG on it to see if yours is bad. If its bad then you know what to buy

Your tune's boost control most likely needs to be adjusted.

Default boost

the tune is your problem get with your tuner and have him look over the wastegate duty cycles they are what will cause your boost to fluctuate at the max levels!!!
