Group N F & R tophats
Other noteable suspension: Cusco adj rear-sway @ 23mm setting with Group A endlinks, subframe lock bolts, rear adjustment arms

Alignment specs
-1.8 R both sides
-1.6 L both sides

Just got the d-specs installed with rce yellow springs, and it is a NIGHT and DAY difference from the oem blown shocks + eibach pro-kit lol. After alignment was done last night, Im even more shocked at how well it handles!! I cant wait for it to settle and break in so I can go 3.5 F and 4.0 R and give that a shot! Will keep you guys posted.

ooo... take a pic if you can. You have the same MY as me and I'm thinking of upgrading from my Prodrives to some stiffer RCE blacks. It'd be nice to see how an 04 sits on those springs.

"aggressive" street + mountain road carving, couple of track days. It's not an everyday driver so I'm willing to live with performance over a bit of comfort.

So last thursday my buddy installed the Tokicos and RCE Black Springs. First impressions at the 5f 5r setting was amazing. I had a completely stock suspension before the install so large gains in handling were immediately noticed. It took about a week to pass the 500 mile break in and last night I adjusted the settings to 4 turns from full FIRM in the front and 3.5 TFFF in the rear. I haven't taken it through the canyons on these settings but so far it seems pretty stiff for a DD so Im going to back it off to 4.5 TFFF in the Front and 4.0 TFFF in the rear. I have been really impressed so far with the RCE Black springs and their progressive nature. The drop was a little less than I wanted but its great because I dont scrape on anything. The Adjustment Extenders in the Rear are AMAZING.

2004 WRX Sedan
Tokico D-Specs @ Front: 4.5TFFF Rear: 4.0 TFFF Rear
RCE Black "Regular Guy" Springs Front: 285 lbs/in Rear: 265 lbs/in
Adjustment Extenders for the Rear
Stock Top Hats
Scooby 921 Spacers
No Knock
Alignment
Camber Front: -.5 Rear: -1.5
Toe 0

Future: What would be the best next upgrade, Group-N Tophats or Sways? Currently both parts are stock.

First, you'll want the struts to be softer in the back than in the front on those springs. Try 4TFFF front and 4.5TFFF rear and see how that feels.

You should get some more negative camber up front as well, go for -1 to -1.5 degrees or more. Aftermarket camber bolts will get you there easily if the stock bolts won't.

Group N top hats would be a nice addition but since you just had the suspension apart (and putting top hats on would me doing it all over again) I'd say go for some sways. They are a great bang for buck anyway. Definitely plan on upgrading your top hats in the future though. Enjoy!

Ok so thanks for bringing up the point about the front being stiffer. Its a bit of confusion for me but I was under the impression, via the tokico manual, if you want to eliminate some understeer one should run a it more firm in the rear than front. Any thoughts why the manual would say that?
I was thinking about the sways over the top mounts for that exact reason.

^^^Well the manual is right, sort of. Stiffening up your compression/rebound ups the stiffness of the rear which increases oversteer, but ideally you should match the compression/rebound settings on your dampers to your spring rates. Since the RCE Blacks are 285F/265R the fronts dampers should be set slightly stiffer than the rear. This is mostly for balance and of course better ride quality.

You would essentially would be compensating for the softer rear spring rate by stiffening the damper. If you end up getting sways it'll be a much more effective way of killing the understeer. Adjustable rear sway bar is the way to go IMO, helps you set the car up the way you like it.

Anyone notice the knob adjustments for the struts were "soft"? Well, three of the four struts offered little to no resistance when turning the knob while one was stiff..? Not sure yet what impact that has on the struts themselves as the car seems to handle amazingly..?

Anyone found the sweet spot with a set of prodrive red's on d-spec's yet? I'm ordering up a set next paycheck and was just curious where to set them after break in.

2006 WRX
42,000 miles on the odo
Crucial Racing Springs (257/217)
Grp. N top hats f/r, 24 mm sways f/r, kartboy endlinks, fender braces
17X8 O.Z. Ultraleggara's Goodyear Eagle F1 235/45/17
-2.75 front -2.0 rear camber

I run them at 5.5 turns from full stiff and find it to be the best setting for daily driving. I think it is faster this way as well, not bouncing or skipping across bumps and losing traction. I am flabbergasted as to why Tokico had these struts mated to 175/175 rate springs as their package because these struts could handle some serious spring rate... like 400/400 I'm guessing based on 257/217 using 5.5 turns from full stiff.

I've only had these on for a week, and only got the alignment today, so I expect the damping settings will change a bit as the struts break in and I get a feel for how I like them.

2005 Saab 9-2X Linear
Approx 43K miles.
Front: 5 turns out from maximum damping
Rear: 5.5 turns out
Camber: -1.5* front, -1.0* rear (camber bolts in front)
Toe: zero all around
Springs: Subaru STI Pinks, wagon-specific
Relevant mods:
IxizShim (6mm) on rear struts (a little more ride height for when I carry stuff or tow)
IPD/Rallitek front sway bar
FHI 20mm rear sway bar
Kartboy front and rear endlinks
BBS RK 17" wheels w/Bridgestone RE960AS 235/45R17 (yes, one size too wide for the rim)
Whiteline QD rear strut bar
Cheap front strut bar
Turn In Concepts cowl braces
TiC Klunk Killer Kit

Comments:

Overall, I'm really happy with the feel. I like the fact that the compression and rebound both change with the adjustment (I think that some adjustables only change rebound) but suspect that at some point I'll feel like I'm compromising between too much/too little on compression/rebound.

I feel like all the little things I did to tighten up the chassis were just in preparation for decent shock absorbers. I considered the Koni inserts, but didn't want to either do the extra work or pay to have it done.

Picking some D-Specs up today. Current mods are.....

Fender Cowls
22mm front sway, 22-24 rear sway
Front/Rear Strut Towers.
17x8.5 +45 Wheels
245/40/17 Hankook Evos
Rear Group N Top Hats
My last alignment I had it set as close to stock as possible. But after install im going for max -camber front and rear with 0 toe.

Im interested in knowing if anyone is running the springs that come with the shocks and if so how is the drop. I have a choice between the Tokico(F175 R175?) or Progress springs(F210 R150). Trying to remain around USDM Pink height for a WRX and keep it correct, car is a d/d with auto-x every now and then. Appreciae any help.

those spring rates are relatively soft. with your sway bars and tires you can get away with something like RCE blacks and still be comfortable with a sporty handling car.

Yeah, that's what Im hearing. I actually want and plan on getting the blacks...just can't get them at the moment and Im kinda limited to Tokicos or the Progress springs right now.

go for the blacks. I just installed my second set about a month ago. Great progressive spring. Comfy and pretty aggressive when you want to be. Worth the money.

Currently running 3 turns from full soft. Going to play with it more after alignment next Friday. As of right now I can't tell the diffrence in feeling from my last set up...AGX USDM Pinks. Guess once they settle and Im aligned the fun stuff will happen.
