View Full Version : GT35R Kids! Come here. Or ECUTEK GURUS!
boostinscooby 05-11-2006, 06:06 PM Well, I will be installing a gt35r kit in my 2005 STi but was told that ecutek isnt the way to go. Well Im stationed in germany and ecutek is really my only option until i come back to the states. I was told that I will only be able to get tuned up to about 21 psi because ecutek is maf based. Im confused, but I would like some input from you guys if you have any. Thanks

It depends on the Turbo Kit you are going to purchase and the octane you will want to run. If you would like to run the Crawford Performance Turbo Kit and I-Speed USA ECU with that, you can make around 600 horsepower on 100 octane. That is about the limit of the of our package so far. In the future we are planning to raise that limt up up quite a bit more, but there is a little more R&D for that setup.
If you plan to run other setups, I am not sure what those system's are capable of, I believe like you have stated they are good to about 21 PSI and about 500 horsepower.
If you have any more questions you can contact us via e-mail. Also for more information about various packages you can check out our gallery of vehicles.

boostinscooby 05-11-2006, 06:28 PM The only way for me to have a good tune for the next year is threw Ecutek on a dyno, thats my only option for now, I just want to know if Ecutek can tune past 20 some odd psi, being that its a maf based tune. Also with my car being fly by wire, i dont know if Ecutek offers 2 seperate maps, Because I want a 93 octane map and a 100 octane map. Last I heard they could only do this with 04 and below where you just hit the defrost or ac button twice to switch maps.
Crawford/I-Speed 05-11-2006, 06:57 PM I would suggest contact EcuTeK about the switchable map feature. I am not sure if they offer it or not currently for the STi's. We do not offer switchable maps, we only offer full drop in packages which come with a programmed ECU for any one of our packages. We currently have customers around the world running them and they are VERY surprised at the reliability, durability and power made on a "shelf" map.
The programmed ECU's we offer are designed around Crawford Performance turbo kits, are tested in house on our Dynapack Dyno and on the road for thousands of miles before we offered the complete package. You are more than welcome to contact us for more information about the packages we offer.
You might just be completely surprised at the packages we offer. There is no need to design parts, get a tune or have to deal with finding the correct combination. We did all that work so you don't have too. It might make a little less horsepower but in the end you will be driving your car, not waiting for parts, companies or even a tune.

boostinscooby 05-12-2006, 01:28 AM I have talked to my tuner and decided what im going to do. Im going to use an Apexi AVC-R to take care of the boost along with an ecutek dyno/road tune.

this is what i was going to recommend, like you said you can run more boost with ecutek you just need a aftermarket controller as stated. map switching is not available yet (and they better get on it) imo good choice on the avcr.

OMEGA SUPREME 05-12-2006, 01:54 PM Can i tag along on this thread? I installed my Gt35r kit over the weekend and im looking to see if anyone has a UTEC map with 860 injectors so i can make it up to turboxs for my tune. We scaled the injectors to 800 and it seems to be running fine but it wants to stall at low idle (ie. pushing in the clutch) Please help me my tune is on thursday and the roads here in VA are scarey. Im looking at getting it trailered up but if i dont have to i wont

Contact Kingpin for a map. I believe they have a map for you !
Kingpin 05-12-2006, 06:23 PM Hit us up I am sure I have something for you. Is this a blow thru MAF or stock location? Stalling probelm is typicall of the stock location but we can do some things to help get around it. Let me know. Thanks.

STi_Guy04 05-13-2006, 04:14 AM i dunno if i was you i`d get a good well know tuner to tune your car with ecutek!.... I had my 35r kit installed and tuned by a few, Its never ran right since the day it went in the shop ^ I have utec for my Em... personaly i hate the thing crusie lights always on rough running car, it also kills at idle, I have the Blow thorugh MAF and it still kills
if I had a 2nd chance to do it all over again I`d go with a Fp-red and only do a pump-gas tune or 100oct.... save your self a ton of cash save that for the problems you`ll have later... cuz you will for sure run into them.. I`ve been trying to get my car running decent for 1 1/2 years now  so Good Luck

Who did you buy your turbo kit from?
If i were you I would get rid of that piggyback isht and either get ecutek or something like hydra.
STi_Guy04 05-14-2006, 04:20 AM its a Kingpin 35r kit, nice kit... The Tune i need to get down!! yeah i got a hydra but dont know who can tune it good where i`am from, Ecutek is a good choice..
but 1st i need to get past my blown motor :p: then i`ll figure tuning out

Give me a break.
So what is done to your super special turbo kit that makes you think it is capable of more power? Personally I would choose the Ultimate Racing kit over any of the others because it was pretty much one of the first (definitely out before your kit) and their customer service and support is hands down the best there is!!! Their kit has been proven to make power time and time again. Oh, and isnt Big Valley running the Ultimate Racing turbo kit on their car?? What kind of times are they running? Any cars with your turbo kit running 10s or faster??
Its fine to suggest your setup, but dont talk like your kit is superior to the others when it most definitely IS NOT.

Have you ever tried a Crawford Performance Turbo Kit or even spoke with them. I might be mistaken but you seem like another person talking smack with nothing to back it up. The only turbo kits on any STi's that compete in endurance races seem to be Crawford turbo kits: Gumball 3000, One Lap of America, NASA Time Trials, Time Attack, etc... I don't really see anything else out there, doesn't that say something?
Big Valley has done some amazing things in the 1/4 mile but they seem to be the only group to have done so. All I am saying is, there is a lot of talk on these boards and rarely is there anything to back it up (i.e. 1000hp thread). The Ultimate Racing turbo kit might have the 1/4 mile but when I drive my car I am not looking for just 1/4 mile races, it is just too boring. I want to play until my hands bleed from the sheer excitement of track racing. Maybe it is just me but I believe facts more than internet bantar.
ShaggyGT 05-15-2006, 01:40 PM You are obviously the one talking with nothing to back it up. I have been around for quite some time and I have seen what works and what does not. I also own and run a shop so I have seen first hand what works and what does not. You will see an '05 Legacy GT with the Ultimate Racing 35R setup running endurance racing very soon. I already compete in Solo I and Solo II events here locally.
I have seen UR kits put down way more power than Crawford's setups and they have the track numbers to back up the dyno numbers. Do a search there are tons of threads with hard evidence of what the UR kits are capable of, you can check over on IWSTI.com as well and find the same. Ultimate Racing is also based out of Canada so maybe that is why you havent heard of the cars they build, but just because you dont read it in your local rice magazine doesnt mean they aren't out there tearing up the track.
I have also tried most of the rotated kits on the market on my LGT (Godspeed, Perrin, and Ultimate Racing). If your looking for a fast spooling 35r kit, then Godspeed's 650R kit is the way to go. I saw full boost by 3600rpms with that kit and made 380whp and 389ft/lbs torque on a mild tune with 19psi on pump gas on a stock STi TMIC!!!
The fact that you feel there is something special about Crawford's kit tells me your basically talking from your ass. Both kits use the SAME TURBO in their 35R kit. The only difference between them is Crawford uses coatings (UR coats their uppipe). Since you feel your so educated show me how the Crawford kit is the only kit out there designed for Road Racing. I dont what to hear your opinion's, I want facts otherwise dont even waste my time. What rotated setups have you ran? What kits have you built? Do you have a shop? Do you do custom fabrication or engine builds? I have never even seen you contribute any useful information at all on this forum.
So please, tell me again that I am "talking smack with nothing to back it up."

Sure. I would love to see first hand what your products are all about. I have access to a dyno and can post a full review about your kit and the power output to give a non-biased opinion. I have found that between the 2 best kits I have ran so far, both have their positives and negatives.
If your serious PM me and we can set everything up.

Wow I am impressed you remember me and my dyno numbers! lol... I am doing well! I am still running the same set-up. Of course as you may know I am at higher altitude being in CO but I ran my car at the track w/your tune on the stock set-up and pulled a 1.6 60ft 13.4 et 1/4 @ 101 mph.
Jayson already ordered me a GT12 turbo, APS DR525 FMIC, Helix Injectors, and all the supporting mods so I will need another reflash after everything is installed. You did such an awesome job on my tune that I am afraid to let another Ecutek license tuner tune my car in CO. As you may know Super Roopair/Tarmac is the only Ecutek tuner in CO and I have heard good and bad things about their tunes so I am really nervous about letting them touch my ecu. Will you be coming back to CO anytime soon?
Thanks,
Jimmy

Tell Jayson to get some more people together and we can make another trip out there, no doubt. It was fun last time and would like to see some new places in Colorado this year if everything goes through.

We would love you back in CO... Seems like all the cars tuned by you run better then the cars tuned by Super Roopair. My buddy had Super Rupair tune his STI with similiar mods and on the highway I pull on him pretty good in the top end... I'm also faster in the 1/4 mile but then again it can be driver error. Anyways how many people will it take for you to come back? You want new reflashes correct and not existing license holders?
Let me know! I'll throw the idea around to some of the guys here in CO.
Thanks,
Jimmy

OBiWrX_3zero3 06-01-2006, 09:42 AM My best 1/4 mile time is a 13.4. I average around a 13.5-13.6. I had a turbo back exhaust added after the tune but no reflash to the exhaust. Could this be affecting some of my performance? By how much? I should've gotten a reflash again but decided to wait for a turbo upgrade which I do have now and just need to talk to Jayson and Dennis about getting you back over here. I'll keep you updated!
Thanks Bill!
