but seriously, I still love my BE more than I love my WRX (so far). It was a great car, but looming mechanical issues weren't worth it. I'm not done with Legacy's just yet, expect me back in the future :)

Hijack all you want as long as it keeps this thread up high. :D

And, if anyboyd wants a really solid, sound car, it's certainly available, with the goodies or stock.

Those that are considering selling out:

1. IDMO
2. ADirtyLegacy
3. 97LegacyGT (well, I know this from the b4rn...)

 Yeah, sorry, we did kinda get a little OT huh?

Mark - Can you blame us? Ben is going to put us all to shame with his monster. I love everything about my car except for the lack of power......and the clutch problems.......and the pending repair costs since my waranty expires tomorrow.

Wiscon_Mark

No, I really can't blame you. I doubt your car is much faster than my EJ22, considering it weighs 400 lbs more (at least) and it leaves a lot to be desired. If I had the money, I'd be going swap, no doubt about it :)

ha..400 on a good day with no gas or oil or any other vital fluids  anyone checked ebay lately to see HOW MANY BE/BH's are for sale there and what they are going for?!?!?! the new gt's are KILLING our resale....which means ill probably have to sell at a lost (kinda high mileage for an '02 and i still owe on it). damn you BL/BP!!!

fibuz

mmm, glad I got out when the resale was still high :)

However, ebay is a poor indicator. i've noticed historically that legacy's either don't sell(reserve) or sell for far below real value (no reserve).

Here are my comments (bump for free :-))

I have for the past several years tried to sell my BE. Like others, the lack of power and a couple of annoying idiosyncracies made it a less than perfect car. Most bothersome is the annoying wind noise in the cabin, which I guess should be fixable if I only spent some time trying to diagnose and correct the poor design. Others were the ticking FOB (corrected with piece of felt padding on the steering column), no lights on the side door switches, and the infamous elbow dimple. LOL.

However, after four years and eight months and 115K miles of worry free use, I am a believer.

The car has gone through two sets of tires (and I am on 10K on the third set). A blow out of one tire from a slightly used set of RE92s at 75mph resulted in nothing more than a slightly gouged but fully useable rim and a piece of plastic molding being lost (and replaced for <$100). Safety proven. I had the coolant additive recall done on time several years ago and the tb changed at 85K miles. I have also changed the plugs twice and air filter fairly regularly but not exactly at the regular scheduled maintenance. I get oil and filter changed every 7K miles instead of 3K. Brake pads changed and rotors turned after two years and recently replaced rotors but pads were still okay.

As far as "performance" mods go, I did the borla header when the OEM dp started to rattle. Great upgrade. Then yesterday, I added the Strommung cat and MIL capacitor which I hope will get rid of the C/E light I have experienced for quite a while. C/E was related to bad cat. I should also experience a slight increase in my current 28 mpg I get from 99% highway driving. Last, I had the neat experience of changing one of the dash lights. ;)

Hoping not to jinx anything, but I have not changed my clutch and it seems to be fine. Granted I do not do any autocross or racing of any type but do enjoy beating cars at stop lights when roads merge to one lane. Even with anemic power, AWD rules. [As I have mentioned before, the DSM hobby car provides whatever dwindling over the top need for power I still have.]

So, in short, I LIKE the BE alot. I still prefer the style over the new Legacy and the fact that there are less of them around only makes it that much more desirable. If you have one as nice as Riverdogs (low mileage and apparently well kept), then that is ideal. Get the aftermarket header + cat treatment and you should have a great DD with just enough power to keep you satisfied 90% of the time.

Now I just need to get mine looking as nice as his (with some rims) or nicer (with a Baha turbo hood) and I will be happy for another 100K miles. By that time, Ben's (aka Phatsuby) project should be fully sorted out and I can send the car to him to address the hp issue once and for all. Better yet, maybe pick up a white BE lowered wagon with the turbo H6 swap and rolling on 18s.

Sorry for the hijack, but just wanted to give another viewpoint from a former BE malcontent.

Keeping the car. Still selling my Celica. And my rims are for sale if you're intersted ...

Fantastic. What made you change your mind? :)

Money, mostly. It's a solid--if unspectacular--car. Might have some fun with it but for now, Mrs. Dog and I are going to use the money from selling my Celica to pay off some bills and save a little money for our daughter.

And, if I get lucky and blow up the engine (weird concept, I suppose), maybe I'll swap in an STI 2.5. :D

Also, the rims and tires are for sale. Pretty much brand spankin' new, wheels are flawless, tires still have the little rubber nubs on 'em, all ready to roll. Here's a link:

And that's dyno verified. So. Very. Sad.

On the upside, the car weighs a grip.

Oh wait, that's a downside.

See why I was thinking about selling it? But it will be better to pays off bills. And when the next thing comes along, all the sweeter.
