I had the Vishnu Stage 1 which consisted of the uppipe, turboback, pulley, and Ecutek reflash. (Now have added DB16g, meth, and a few other things.) It is a very good package, and a lot of fun. Really fast turbo spool, smooth power band, 3rd gear becomes a power gear and 5th gear can be used for passing.

But the Ecutek reflash map for this stage is not as good as custom tuning by Shiv. On the reflash before custom tuning, I was running lean from around 3000-3400 rpm on an 05 WRX with 91 octane.

You are better off finding a local tuner in your area if you have one. If you are stuck on a mail order, look elsewhere then Vishnu. There are quite a few other comparable tuners that cost less, and are not as conservative as he is.

I think any shelf map you download or get from someone (mail order) is going to be conservative. It's not safe for them to send you an aggressive map since not every vehicle is the same.

As for engine management I think one of the best routes is to get an ecutek, the same thing Vishnu uses, and then have someone local tune your car.

You can find use ecutek computers on this forum in the private for sale section. Used, it'll be cheaper and then it's just up to you to take it to a tuner, plug it in, and have them tune it for your car. Just make sure you get one compatible with your model year and tranny.

You are sort of correct. It really depends on how well the tuner knows how the ECU operates and the modifications that have been done to the vehicle. A tuner that understand what the ECU does can push the envelop further because they can manipulate the ECU to follow a set of rules for different weather conditions or emergency conditions. It is being able to readapt the ECU to the new modifications is what takes a lot of work. Once you have done that, then making reliable power even on a shelf map is not hard.
