So whats the deal on the upgrade anti-sway bar on the
WRX wagon? Is the stock one different from the sedan? Do I need one and how much does it cost ?(installed-I'm not a motor head) I'm not a racer just looking for a good handling ride

You might want to click the "search" link and enter:

wagon sway bar

it'll give you a list of info you want.

Or you could just tell him yes it is slightly smaller than the sedan and it would be beneficial to get a beefier one and he could be on his way. The search function is good to use sometimes, but I think it is rude to just refer a brand new member directly to the search without any help!

That is just one of the ways I noticed i-club has changed since the WRX came out. A lot less courtesy on the board. Not a personal attack corpsie, just my .02!

I believe the stock wagon swaybar is 17" (someone correct me if I'm wrong please), and the stock sedan swaybar is 20". If you can find somebody selling their swaybar from their sedan because they're upgrading, you might find yourself a good deal.

Stock wagon is 17mm diameter. Sedan is 20mm. Doesn't sound like much, but if you compare them side-by-side it's a big difference. Even at about 80 bucks for a genuine Subaru 20mm bar, it's the best bang for the buck upgrade for the wagon.

my dealer quoted me 180 for the "wagon stabilizer bar and bushing kit" .....is this silly?

On subaruparts.com there are several rear bars for the wagon including:

1)"Rear Stabilizer/Bushing Kit - This sway bar kit is for the Wagon" for $144.

2)"20mm Rear Sway Bar - Add a stiffer rear sway bar on to your RS. This is the 20mm sway bar that comes standard on the WRX." for $81.20.

Do any of you have experience with the first item? And, for those who ordered the less expensive item were bushings included?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Guys- I did discover some of the info by exploring the club a bit more on my own but I appreciate the straightforward info and advice. I think I will check out the ride/handling stock and the bar may be my first of many upgrades.
What does that big black dot on my mail icon mean? It looks bad-very bad. Hey I'm a real newby-barely know how to use this club yet. Be patient please!!!
Thanks mucho!

I was pulling into my subdivision during peak rush hour traffic. I see a hole opening up, so I'm ready to take it. I notice the van coming towards me is going faster than I anticipated...no problem, get the revs up and slip the clutch a bit. Back end starts to break, oversteer, right? (I get the two confused) Is this the condition the beefier sway bar is supposed to correct?

Let me see if I can help with this one.

The stock WRX wagon rear bar is 17mm and the stock rear bar for the sedan is 20mm. The sway bars are interchangeable and the 20mm WRX sedan bar works great on the WRX wagon. The kit with the bushings is a 19.5mm bar, but it is made with a different alloy mix than the stock one and it is stiffer than the 20mm bar. The kit also comes with the bushing kit that was originally sold separately. (Subaru combined the kits and did not raise the price!) The kit comes with metal sub-frame bushings, front and rear later link bushings and front A-arm bushings. The time to install all of the bushings is about 4 hours and labor time to install just the bar is about 20 minutes. The bushings in the Sway-bay/Bushing kit are made by STi and are also very stiff.

I hope this help,

That's it *throws down the gloves* :p

Actually, I gave the proper search terms.

Also, if you give the man a fish, he eats for a day, if you teach him to fish, he eats for a lifetime. (know what I mean)

I understand calling people who just state "did you bother to search?" rude, but I thought I was being helpful *scoff*

I hear what your saying corpsie. I just happened to see that he was member 11000+, so I knew he was VERY new and I'm one of those members that likes to make the new guys feel its as easy to get info here as when I came on the board. That's all and it's no big deal. At least you didn't put "Do a search" and thats it!!

In most circumstances a larger (stiffer) stabilizer bar on the back should make the car tend to oversteer more than it does now.
