View Full Version : Decision time: Ultraleggs, Slipstreams or Torques

Alright, I'm turning into one of "those" but I'm really lost and I could use some personal experience with these 3. My requirements are a strong rim for a decent price (hence the two rota's) and 17x8. I am coming off of a set of 18x8.5 SSR's so I'm looking for a rim that will actually take a pothole without bending!

So out of the 3, which are the most resistant to bending: Oz Ultraleggeras, Rota Slipstreams, or Rota Torques

Thanks for the help all,

Great looking Italian race wheels or knock offs from the Phillipines? Hmm...

I already have "great looking japanese race wheels" and love them except that I've had to replace 3 because they bend easily. I'm not so much caring about the look as the durability. Oz looks like the clear winner though.

Smart move downsizing to 17" in NJ.

Not much data on the strength of the Ultraleggeras. TUV should come to the east coast some time--the old Superleggs were TUV approved, too, and message boards are littered with stories of bending and breaking them on potholes.

Still, sounds like you want to go with peanut gallery, so good luck!

How much per wheel is an UltraLeg?

I haven't shelled out the money for anything. I should have been more precise in my post; I meant to say that viewing the poll, Oz is the clear winner for the board.

SSR's are also TUV approved, it didn't keep them from going out of round after a single philly pothole. I was looking for real world experience with either the Oz's or the Rotas

I had Slipstreams on my STi last winter and didn't have any problems, and I drive my car daily. It was my first season with them so I can't give you any long term reviews, but I like 'em.

around 230/wheelIt is interesting that OZ can make a wheel for retail sale at that inexpensive a price given the ridiculous cost of labor and taxes in Italy (if they're really made there), the strength of the Euro, etc.

But that price approaches the price of similarly sized forged wheels. I wouldn't want to spend that much on a non forged wheel.

I think if you are looking for a good daily driver rim the rotas would work better. Sure, they may not be the quality of the OZ's, but if you mess one up they are cheap to replace. the strength issues and cracking has been solved from what I have seen.

I was not certain the ultraleggeras fit over the brembos, but I guess they do. Cool. What is the offset of those 17x8 OZ wheels ?
