I received a letter from Subaru America asking me to extend my security/warranty on my vehicle. Below is the offer from Subaru of America Inc. I am sure all of you have received it too.

6 years/60,000 miles = $546
6 years/80,000 miles = $1022
6 years/100,000 miles = $1412

Most cars now have 10 yrs 100,000 warranty. Now, all of us drives WRX, would you extend your warranty? I am thinking for protection and peace of mind that I should go for it. Now, i need all your opinions. Thank you.

Also, will they cover the mods that we added to our car?

First, see what REALLY is covered by the extended warranty and who is under-writing the policy. Also if there is a provision for a prorated refund if you don't the whole policy to term.

Second, who in the hell keeps a zoomer for more than three years? This is America ... new models come out about every three years or so, and hey, its so-o-o-o uncool to have last year's looks and technology.

Three, if Mitsubishi gets its $hit together and sends over the REAL EVO VII (not the lame Lancer), I will just have to get one of those babies... lighter and more power. More POWER!! Gotta have more power !!! .......... Sorry.

Then, when the pocket rocket race really heats up, the SkyLine (hopefully with a more appealing American name plate) will make it over here. Who knows, even an American car company may rise to the occasion and produce a rally care of note. Sorry again, I think its the drugs talking. A Cavalier WRX just doesn't seem to cause a rise in my shorts!

I have been wondering about an extended warranty myself. However, if you want to mod your car I wouldn't recommend it. They will certainly not cover mods you added to your car. Why would a warrenty from Subaru cover parts you bought somewhere else? In fact if they think the mods caused the damage they will not fix it under warranty. I have heard some dealerships try to blame anything on mods if your car is modded so if you mod don't bother with the extended warranty.

I purchased my 6/60,000 when I purchased my Forrester (could of had a REX but long storry) The only extended warrenty that any Subaru dealer should be offering, would be the one from Subaru. Mine was about twice the price of the prices listed, but it was a full bumper to bumper coverage (minus the wearables, and things like the seats, and mirrors)

I have not had to use it yet *knock on wood*, but as a previous owner of a Land Rover, that had some cheap ass warrenty company as the underwriter, I must say that SUBARU's is well worth it.

That is just my 2C

The guy at the dealer I bought from signed me up for the 7/100 extended and it cost me 2250. I just cancelled it today for a full refund and he was not happy at all. Serves him right fro trying to take advantage of a first time customer! Rest assured I mentioned this on my survey review of the car sale.

I bought a used (98?) corvette off ebay.. It had 22,000 miles on it. www.warrantydirect.com charged me $1250 for a 7 year 100,000 mile warranty. Cool part was the 7 years started from the day I bought the warranty, not the in-service date of the car.

Also, it was their top of the line package with no deductible. They had only a short list of EXCLUSIONS rather than long list of INCLUSIONS. Only things it didn't cover were wearables (brake pads, tires) and then a couple weird things like the airbags and one other thing.. don't remember.. But at any rate, it seemed like a better deal than most manufacturer warranties.

When you have a problem you take it to any shop & they give the shop a credit card # to charge repairs to.. done deal. Also came with free towing/roadside assistance package for the length of the warranty.

I sold the car after about 4 months, and got the appropriate refund amount back promptly with no arguements.
