I have an auto 96 Legacy GT and a friend has a manual Loyal sitting in his field with a 5-speed in it, I was going to take the transmission and rebuild it with some ppg gears etc and drop it into the legacy, however the big X factor is, will this work? I know between the GC and GD chassis and the Legacy chassis of the same year everything more or less bolts up drivetrain wise... just curious if this transmission will work or if I need to go source a RS/WRX box. Free is a good price so if it will work I will do that. Thanks.

If you're going to have Andrew build the tranny, I'd ask him. He's the tranny guru.

I am inclined to say the Loyal will not bolt up to the Legacy, but would like to hear how it comes out as I would love to put a low ranger in a Legacy.....

An EA82 1.8l loyal trans will not bolt to an EJ engine. I dont think the loyal ever came with a EJ engine.

Some people have made adapter plates. If you're truly interested, I'd suggest searching on www.ultimatesubaru.net/forum
