Opinions?

17x7.5 wheels, Megan Racing coilovers

Frequent "for fun" autocross use as well as daily street. No nasty potholes in sight.

i would highly recommend going with the 235/40R17's they are .5 inches shorter than stock and the 235/45R17 are close to .5 inches taller, if you plan on any spirtited driving the shorter overall diameter of the 235/40's would give you a better gearing advantage, plus a slightly firmer side wall. plus they dont look too bad on 17 X &.5" wheels,

If you're using coilovers, just go for broke. 40s.

Thanks.

Part of the concern is that I don't want any further gearing advantage, as I am running the STI RA gears.

The infamous Tire Size Calculator ( http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html ) says:

205/55/16
sidewall 4.4in
revs per mile 811

225/45/17
sidewall 4.0in
revs per mile 808

235/40/17
sidewall 3.7in
revs per mile 827

235/45/17
sidewall 4.2in
revs per mile 796

Hmmmmmmmmm

i see where your at, still depeding on how much freeway driving you do i would still perfer the shorter tire as to the taller one. try and find a local that you can swap wheels with for about an hour and see if you like what ever it is they have, if not then get other one. if all else fail pick up some 17 x 8.5" wheels and rock 245/40R17's which are super close to stock diameter.

Try this tire and wheel calculator. It is a lot easier to use.
