I was curious to see if there were significant differences in the sti transmissions from 04-06.
I believe the newer ones have a yaw sensor while the 04 has only he lateral G sensor. The gearing is the same, and i know the jdm 6 spd has diff 5-6 gear ratios.

Also, how much would it cost me to swap an sti transmission in an 06 wrx.
...From what ive seen i can get everything i need for 3000-3500 if i look hard enough. Also i can sell my tranny for 1000-1300....not bad if i did the work myself.
Im guessing i would need the following.
Tranny w. linkage
r180 rear end w/ driveshaft
front axles w/ hubs
rear axles w hubs
clutch/ flywheel
tranny mounts...
sti gauge cluster?? and switches

Just contemplating the idea of swapping a 6spd...which is the reason i looking to buy an sti, but i will lose a lot if i trade in...just researching and viewing what options are out there.

Anything i would need to know about the 06 TR that is different than previous models for a swap?...maybe the rear hubs are a direct swap?

Also, i have heard that the dccd is hard to get working right when swapping into a wrx. Anyone have experience??

Pretty much, how hard is it to swap in the usdm 6 spd transmission to where it will work EXACTLY like it would coming from the factory in an sti....

06 TR is the same as every other WRX.

You can do the swap for $3500 if you are DAMNED lucky, budget for $6000 so you aren't disappointed.

If you need what you will need, there's a list in the transmission faq that is stickied at the top of the forum. Read the stickys....that's why they are there.

Why are you swapping anyways? There are like 900 tranny options and the 6MT may be the ticket for you and then again, it may be a poor choice depending on what you are doing with your car.

I, like most people am a big fan of the DCCD, 6spd, lockout reverse...plus front lsd. I will use the car for daily driving purposes, but would like to try and enter into an some scca events.

Im gonna guess everyone will suggest trading in for an sti....

im a decent mechanic...to professional experience, but im good at building things so with labor on my behalf...ive come up with these "play around" figures

Adjustable Coilovers-------------1000
front and rear sways------------350
front and rear strut braces-------100 ebay :D
ebay version cusco type 2 brace--100
sti 6spd w/ dccd, r180, driveshaft, axles----3500
sti gauge cluster-----------------200

-------------$$5250 dollars

Im guessing this setup would handle better than an sti, IF it were to be done.
Not, factoring in the motor. Is there something im missing?

Also, thanks for the info unabomber...i read your FAQ's, so it pretty much seems like ithe real debate lies in the rear end...which brings up brakes, wheels, etc...hmm...
also, i would have to find a great deal on a full swap...

If i found an 04 sti transmission, could i bolt up my subaru 4pots and 2 pots instead of the brembos on the sti axles/hubs?

anyone else with experience in the swap have any advice?

You're outta your mind if you find the r180 drive shaft and axles w/ TRANNY for $3500... I think you're setting yourself up to be really disappointed just as Unabomber posted.

You can find some on ebay for $4000-4500 but I personally don't really trust those dudes..

I got my JDM suretrac for $3500 w/ shift linkage (don't forget you'll need the sti specific one), and $1000 for the entire rear and that was with getting hooked up, I see vendors selling them all day for $2000.

I haven't seen an sti cluster go for less than $400 personally..

You are going to have to spend a bunch of money either way you look at it so make sure you don't give yourself a low ceiling, hit it early and get discouraged.

I'm at about $6000 on my swap (engine and tranny).
