Curious about the side bags, wondering how they worked, etc. When I sit in my car, I even wonder about the lack of space between my arm/shoulder and the door/frame. I have heard that letting go of the steering wheel just before a crash can save your thumbs from the steering wheel bag, and am wondering if the warnings not to rest your arm on the windowsill or door armrest are just Subaru's CYA or are a real concern. Seems like the response time for side bag inflation would even be quicker than a front bag deploy, since there is so little crush space to the side. Your experiences?

With a final total of $12,071.21 in damages (and labor) from my accident........not one airbag deployed, let alone the side airbags. I was not injured, other than a bruise to my knee from the dash... and the mental anguish of having someone else trash my car and then live without her for 3 and1/2 months....but suprisingly....the damage was mostly cosmetic and you would never know that it had been wrecked if I did not tell you....but no airbags...

my rex hit a curb--hard enough to cause the front right rim to break in half, flipped the thing over on the drivers side. all the air bags deployed--i dont remeber this cause i blacked out--but afterwards--my face was bruised and sore, and my left arm had a huge bruise on it from the side air bag. they worked very well--my friend riding shotgun walked away with no injuries--but i broke my knee and had to have surgery. they should put an airbag under the steering wheel somewhere to protect peoples knees:rolleyes: , or maybe i shouldn't have been driving like mario andretti around a turn--the RE92's with 7000 miles of twisties and lock-em-up braking didnt help much either.
Rally safely!

sorry no airbags deployed in my wreck. the front got pushed in far enough so that the valvetrain got f-ed with and the engine had to be removed and sent to subaru to have the heads replaced. been 3+ months that i dont have my car so far.

It's been exactly 1 month since my accident. They started working on it yesterday. I estimate the body and mechanical damage to be around $15000. You would think that with that much damage, the airbags would have popped out, but they didn't. No one was seriously injured though. I had a sore shoulder from the seat belt. My passenger hit his head on the door window. I think if the airbag came out, that wouldn't have happened.

After reading these first few posts I have to say that airbags are pretty cool. . . . even though airbags get a bad rap, they have improved over the years. They are amazing saftey devices. Most of the posts above didn't have airbag deploy, and in those accidents no one was really hurt. The sensors are smart (and fast). They'll deploy as needed, same as a pretension seatbelts. I feel quite safe in my wrx.

I think we need a poll on how old every one is who has had a wreck. Are all you crashers young drivers with no experience or are that many people just unlucky?
One thing is for sure, if I had a fast car when I was a teen I would have probably been in accidents as well.
I just hope all this does not raise insurance for everyone else because if so I will not be able to justify the WRX.
