Long time viewer first time user. Me and the woman are looking at getting a blue WRX wagon in December and we were wondering how much you guys paid and what options to get?

WRXwagonist 10-11-2001, 03:29 PM Since there's no dealer markup at Subaru, you should get it for $24,150 OR LESS for the standard, +$1000 for auto. Hopefully less if you can bargain. When I got mine I also got $500 in accessories free...just talk to Chris at Waialae Subaru about that. Hope that helped.
yup i second that--i bought my car from chris and ron--they're super cool and i go back once in awhile to talk story and show them my mods.
Bluebaru 10-11-2001, 11:24 PM Much mahalos for the info Yuzo and WRXwagonist. We've been to Waialae Subaru this past summer and spoke to both Chris and Ron. They both seem cool. Ron seems to be a car kinda guy. I think Chris drives a blue WRX demo wagon. We were going to get one in July, but stuff came up and now we gonna wait for Christmas and job raises. Oh yeah, what you think of the guage package and the short-shifter?
push2 10-11-2001, 11:46 PM Yah Ron is a good guy. I'd get the STI gauge pod instead just because I got the factory gauges and they are kinda hard to pay attention due to the fact that they are next to invisible but hey they do the job. Hope to see yah around... When you finally get your WREX!
chillN 2.5RS 10-12-2001, 12:25 AM yeah chris is cool even tho he thinks i tried to steal the momo shift knob from last car show. i still need to talk to him about that.
but yeah ron is the man. i wish he sold me the car tho.
i got mine in waipahu cause thats where my car was. oh well good luck.
Cliff Ditchhanger 10-12-2001, 01:28 AM Welcome! I got my 99 RS form Waialae and Chris sold it to me. I've never worked with Ron, but either one will give you a great deal. Chris knows all of us pretty well, and if you mention some of us, it will put you in a better light (maybe...he might also scoff and laugh and tell you not to get involved with us  ).
As far as the decision over the gauge pod or the short shifter....I would have to say go with the short shifter. There are many other companies that make good aftermarket gauge pods and gauges...but like every modification one does to their car, it's all personal preference...
NoLimitWRX 10-12-2001, 01:59 AM as far as the options you mentioned, ... I would say don't get either of them. You can Definitely Save A Lot of money by buying aftermarket items(or Subaru parts from a vendor). There's getting to be more gauge pod options(read: Much Better), and quite a few short shifters. Say a Kartboy ss for instance, ... you can pick that up along with the bushings for no more than 120 I'd say, ... and if you were to get the 'optional Sti ss', you'd pay well over 300(if I remember correctly). I know the Sti one replaces the whole shift assembly(Supposed to be better:rolleyes: ), but why do that?
just my .02
:D
HubbieScooby 10-12-2001, 02:12 AM hey there
welcome to the club....i bought my subaru from Ron and Chris....i went to Tony Nissan in ala moana....the salemen totally sucked there!!! i asked for a lower price for a maxima and they laughed at me.....that was totally unprofessional.....i was pissed....so i went to subaru just to look....and look at me today....a 2001 RS sedan and still loving it:D .....Ron is the coolest salesmen i ever saw....very friendly, upfront and honest.....i just wish all salesmen were like him....u know how when you had your car for a year or so u start to think "man for what i spent i could've got this or that"...nope not me.....if i had 20,000 again i would still choose the 2.5 RS.....i hope this helps....good luck on your decision....
hugh
NightmareOnSubySt 10-12-2001, 02:46 AM Yup, Chris is a cool guy. Got me good on 2 Subys so far...if the STi ever comes over it might be 3!
Yeah, I know...I really need to "Get A Life".
Bluebaru 10-12-2001, 05:56 AM Mahalo everyone for all the assistance. Hey Hubbie, we also went to that Nissan dealer and yes they do suck. Nissan is asking a lot of money for the out going 2001 Maxima. The 2002 Maxima and the Altima is going to have more of everything and they still wanted $30,000 for a 20th anniversary one. We couldn't even remember why we even looked at the Maxima after driving the WRX.
NightmareOnSubySt 10-12-2001, 06:19 PM Before I picked up my WRX I was strongly considering a Maxima SE, but couldn't find a 5 speed. New City Nissan wanted about $25k for a 2001 auto Maxima SE...glad I went with the WRX.:D
yup i'll 3rd that-nissan totally sucks. when i went there i was soo hungry and tired from car testing all day long and they tried to keep me there. i told them i would sleep over it and come back but they kept telling me no and to fill out some papers so i could buy it that night. i was like ***!!! any way to make a long story short yeah subaru is totally cool and i would get those options--because you could get them cheaper aftermarket but i feel it easier to pay it off on the loan. second if anything goes wrong you still got a warranty.
btw... it's good your waiting to the end of the year because that's when dealers get desperate and just want the cars off there lot to make space for newer models.
btw2..... not to deter you from buying a subie, but with all that time on your hands you should be like me and go test drive a lot of other cars and see how they suck in comparasin. also you can play with other dealers to make like your going to buy there car when you really want a subie (i find total humor in this). also if you listen to someone like ron and other salesguys, you can really tell who knows their cars and who's talking smack.

Bluebaru 10-13-2001, 01:19 AM Mahalo again Yuzo for the advice. We have driven a bunch of new cars this year. We first started looking at a VW GTi 1.8T, but changed our minds because VW reliabilty is kinda sketchy. No dealer had one to drive anyway. Ended up testing a Jetta Wolfsburg instead. Also drove a RAV 4 and a Celica. All nice, but then again any brand new car is going to be nice.
no probs--any more questions on having fun with dumb arse dealers?LOL.

NightmareOnSubySt 10-13-2001, 02:25 PM ...since you gonna wait til December anyways, you gotta test drive the new 2002 SE-R Spec V! Before my WRX purchase, I was set on the SE-R...I test drove a 5 speed 2001 Sebtra SE with performance package (upgraded struts, springs & LSD) and had a blast! Took the salesman out for a mini autox in a big parking lot and whacked the revlimiter twice! The redline is rather low but damn that little car is tossable and handling is great! With the 175 hps, the new SE-R should be a contender! :D
Bluebaru 10-13-2001, 10:26 PM Good idea Nightmare! Hmmm...which Nissan dealer to bug now? How about the new Tony one in Waipio? I've been waiting to see that new SE-R too. The seats are kinda ugs, but you could always get some covers for them. Just got the new Car and Driver in the mail yesterday and read the comparison with it and the Impreza RS, Jetta 1.8t, Neon, and the MP-3. They said that the 6 speed on the car kinda sucked, the redline is very low at only 6100rpm, and the power is down from 180 to 175hp. Its still cool since its cheap and its got a helical limited slip. I wonder how the regular SE-R is with the 5-speed and 165hp. The Impreza RS came in second place and the MP-3 came in first. That MP-3 in blue looks pretty nice, has a good chassis and handles nice, but its kinda too boy racer looking to me and does not have enough horsepower, and Ford owns a good part of Mazda so look out. That new Protege 5 wagon looks nice and its cheap, too bad it has even less power at 130hp. :o
WindCloud 10-14-2001, 05:21 PM Are everyone's car a manual?. Who has an auto?
push2 10-14-2001, 06:23 PM Im a clutch monster:lol:
WindCloud 10-14-2001, 07:44 PM I wanna learn manual, but dont' have the chance, but most of all the car....
I like the WRX but heard that if you dont' drive manual, you can't really experience the 227 @ 6000 rpm.
I'm more for the looks. and the RS with the FOG LIGHTS look just as good hehe.. maybe change the hood or rims..
Still waiting for that day..
