I was wondering if we can fit wider than stock tires on the stock sti wheels. I think they are 225s stock... is a 235 or 245 achievable? I'm looking to use these tires for street and occassional autocross use, so any help is appreciated. Right now I'm still running the tires the car came with. I looked around on search and couldn't find anything on this, but if I missed it, feel free to flame me. :D

that guy is talking about how he's raising his coilovers and whatnot to avoid rubbing though, do you think if I run 245 series with stock suspension on stock wheels that I'll get rubbing? I want more contact area, but I don't want to have to change more stuff just to get a little bit wider of a tire.

on a stock 05 sti you can put a 255/40-17 tire on the stock rims and not experience rubbing. For racing I have a 275/40-17 tire on a 48 offset 17x8 wheel with only minimal rubbing when the tires are new (more tread) at full compression. A 245/45-17 and 235/45-17 tire will fit fine on a stock 05 sti's wheel.

Actually I haven't done that yet. I have heard that they will fit. I just think that at full wheel lock and compression they would probably rub. They are getting installed on Friday and I will let you know what I had to do, if anything. I have Tein flex coilovers and am running very mild camber.

Keep in mind stock RE070 225 size is as wide as most 235 and some 245s. My Falken FKs in 245 are only about 1/2" wider then the RE070s.

I think JDM-Addict fit 265's on his without problems, maybe PM him...
EDIT: Nevermind, he wasn't on stock wheels. 255 is about as far as you should go on the stock wheel.

I just got a call from the shop that installed the tires:
No rubbing - 255/40/17 on stock '05 rims with tein flex coilovers (no height adjustment made yet). I'll have to flog it around a little to see if any rubbing occurs.
