I enjoy driving hpde track days and I am upgrading my level saftey.

I am awaiting the delivery of my rollbar and I am getting ready to order a 5 point harness. I will probably go with a simpson 5 pt.

Here is my question about the harness and where to mount the lap belt:

Should I go with a floor mount setup and use the exisitng oem 3pt. belt mounting hardware?

OR

Should I use a a clip-in setup and run eye bolts through the floor of the car with the specified backing plates? (I don't mind putting holes in the floor if needed).

It seems that the oem location should be fine but it would be nice to be able to remove the belts using the clip-ins if needed.

Thanks!

Jim

Pre-Flame Disclaimer:
No one will ride in the back with the bar in place.
Safety equipment will be in place for driver and passenger.
Will only drive to track with bar in place.
Will not drive car with harness unless bar is in place.
Ample padding will be placed on all sides of bar.
Basically, I will try not to do stupid stuff involving bar or harness.

best setup depends on how your stock belt mount points line up with race seat harness slots.

if the parts line up OK, why not use OEM belt mounts? they are super sturdy to meet OEM insurance gov't godlike requirements.

if the parts don't line up, start drilling and use big backing washers.

probly most likely scenario is that you use stock mounts for lap belts, drill a hole for crotch strap, and shoulder belts go to back-seat stock mounts or buckle onto a bar between rear shock towers.
