No, sorry no pics of the downpipe. It looks pretty typical, but is better quality than the ones on ebay. I also have a sparkplug de fouler to go with it to help prevent CEL's, or I have a MIL eliminator if you're an 02-03...

Apologies for the dumb question, but whats the difference between the Cat-back and axle-back?

axleback is a muffler section that includes piping to the midpipe (intermediate pipe). It gets the term from the fact that that connection happens roughly at the rear axle...

cat back is from the catalytic converter all the way to the muffler. it usually includes a midpipe (intermediate pipe), and an axleback...

hope that helps

Thanks Rob,
That's more or less what I was thinking it was. Is the midpide in the STI is 3"?

I have a 9-2x and I'm working on the whole UP, DP and Axleback to go Stage 2...

no, the STi midpipe is 2.5" w/ a small resonator...

larger than the 9-2x has though... ;)

all you NEED for stage 2 is the downpipe technically...

I'm not sure of the brand. I know it's a name brand, bellmouth, and good quality. And of course... it is non-catted! I have a spark plug defouler or mil eliminator (depending on your year) to go with it to prevent cel's or a failed inspection...

The STI midpipe is not 3" but the downpipe and uppipe are where the lion's share of power gains are from. On Texas' good gas I've run stage 2 on a wrx with just gutted uppipe/downpipe and was perfectly fine, no knock whatsoever!!!

So is it working going with an axle back with a smaller mid-pipe, seems like the restriction of the small mid-pipe would eliminate any benifit of a higher flow axle back. I suppose I could go stage two with the DP only, I just figure if I'm going to go through the hassle of getting an UP and axle back in I might as well do it all at the same time.

a lot of axlebacks are only 2.5" piping...

which one are you looking at (or already have)?

Dave, not trying to hijack, but at least we bump your thread... :D

then you only need a 2.5" midpipe as the STi stock axleback is 2.5"... ;)

Downpipe = Easy I can help you with it too. I have a way to do it that cosmetically it looks 100% stock! On a 2.0 the gutted stock downpipe actually works pretty good compared to the real bellmouth.
Uppipe = Don't even think about it...

A muffler is more restrictive than a straight peice of pipe. It is actually the most restrictive part so getting a better flowing muffler is benificial. But although it is the most restrictive it's not the most important part. The first 6 inches out of the turbo (assuming there isn't the retarted uppipe cat) is the most important part, you want to get the gasses out fast!!!

I posted this Q on your other thread, but saw this one is having more response.

What is the part # on these springs? Are they actually for the wagon (861021) or are they for the sedan (861018) and fit the wagon as well? I have a wagon and would be interested if they are for the wagon (861021).

Thanks,

Chris

What kind of flange is on that downpipe? Donut or flat?

I'm not sure. I think they predate those you're refering too and supposedly fit both sedan and wagon...

I think it's flat but I've attached it to the stock intemediate pipe with no gasket at all and it didn't leak noticeably...

PM'd about engine/tranny mounts

What type? Miles/Condition?

Davidss

What type? Miles/Condition?
They are a modified stock mount with higher shore eurethane. It's as good as most aftermarket and much less cost. I can show anyone how to do it themselves but you need an extra set off the car to do it on (takes a week)...

Unfortunately I'm not willing to help you install them it's a big PITA... They are only for sale with exchange of stockers...

as far as the differentiation in dp's...

-invidia's are marked with a welded on tag near the mouth towards the turbo, and are full-polished. I have one of these fitted and they are high quality.

-cusco's are jdm fitment only i believe, and will thus be longer than a standard dp, as the resonator/midpipe on jdm models is shorter, but the catback is the same length, thus necessitating extra dp length.
