Volkswagen AG is developing an entry-level car that could be sold by Dodge in the United States, South and Central America, and possibly Europe. A VW-designed Dodge is "a viable option," said a DaimlerChrysler management board member who requested anonymity. "We are talking about sharing technology.

I believe there is precedent for this. Wasn't the Omni basically a first-generation Golf or Rabbit body?

No, it was a complete knock-off.
Funny, a company with a horrible reliability record making a car for another company with a horrible reliability record.

Well Chrysler is making the next-generation VW minivan, so I guess the 2 companies are getting even closer, if true.
(ofcourse this shouldn't be surprising after Chrysler and Mitsu broke off their long time love afair. Chrysler was bound to find some one else to hook up with - that slut!)

The early Omnis actually had VW drivetrains. I had a friend in high school with one.

It probably would have been easier for Chrysler to partner with former DCX protectorates Hyundai or Mitsubishi. Perhaps Daimler wants to offload Chrysler on VW?
I heard last year VW and DaimlerChrysler were discussing a merger, but for obvious historical and regulatory reasons, it never happened and Porsche bought 17% of VW.

The Hornet was placed out to bid. So far VW has made the best offer.
