View Full Version : '04 STi only making 10lb of boost....
2thAche 05-29-2006, 11:45 PM I just happened to notice this when I was out today. Normally on full throttle/high rpms I get the full 14 on the boost gauge.
I just was running a bit and felt the car was not 100%. I checked the boost gauge and the most I could get out of it was 10 lb. I ran a bit through different gears, it hits 10 and no more.
My engine is completely stock, just a K&N filter that I've had for a while and 21K on the odometer.
Any ideas?
kinger 05-30-2006, 12:02 AM Check all the lines around the BOV, etc and make sure they are all connected.
azndrifter01 05-30-2006, 12:07 AM it might also be intercooler hose is loose its the thing connect to intake manifold with 2 hose clamps check those and all lines etc what kinger said
El Gato 05-30-2006, 12:36 AM check also for leaks on the uppipe/turbo uppipe/header header/block gaskets also.
06hwrx 05-30-2006, 12:37 AM if you were to have a leaking near the downpipe and catback connect, would that cause any lose of performance or boost?
jawwadh 05-30-2006, 12:39 AM its probably the intercooler throttle body coupler, that seems to be a weak point for all stis
DarkKnight 05-30-2006, 01:05 AM no, if you leak behind the turbo, it wouldnt effect the boost
2phless 05-30-2006, 01:10 AM 10 lbs is the stock W/G spring pressure. Could have a dead factory boost control solenoid, or a pinched line off the T (as in the pressure side runs right to the WG solenoid and the T can't vent anything off.)
Hear any odd noises / whistles?
azndrifter01 05-30-2006, 01:24 AM but its downpipe is leaking air it might be loss of power and it might cause loss of boost because of back pressure correct me if im wrong
STimo 05-30-2006, 01:38 AM You might be in "safe" or "limp" mode. All you have to do to get out of this is reset the computer. Unplug the battery and leave it unplugged for 5 min. Plug it back in and go for a drive, and it should be fixed. Subarus do this to save the engine when something goes wrong, but sometimes it happens for no reason. If it happens again after you reset it, i would take it to your subaru dealer and have them check it out.
2thAche 05-30-2006, 11:29 AM Checked all the lines to the solenoid, they are good. No odd noises. Today when I first started the car and warmed up, it would run to 12, but only briefly, then only after a few minutes it would hit 10 and no more. Filled up the tank with fresh gas, still only 10 max.
Garageless 05-30-2006, 11:36 AM has it been really hot and humid?
2thAche 05-30-2006, 02:31 PM Unplugged the battery, pressed brake 20 sec to reset ECU, still stuck at 10lb.
Yes it has been hot. Was in Savannah over the weekend and it got up to near 100 degrees. But last night when I first noticed it was 80 degrees and this morning it wasn't hot yet.
Probably it's time to go to the dealer. I hate my dealer. They are primarily Cadillac and I really think they don't know a damn about Subarus.
jawwadh 05-30-2006, 04:01 PM I really think u have a boostleak somewhere.
