View Full Version : Do I have to get a BOV to fix this?

I did a search but couldn't find the magic word.

I was autocrossing for the first time today. I noticed that when I chopped the throttle on full boost the car won't slow down right away. The turbo must still be spooling or something. Needless to say this made it hard to drive. Is there anything I can do to remedy this without sounding like a tea cup ride at the local carnival?

What mods do you have in your 309whp 06 WRX?

BUT..a BOV won't help...the throttle is closed when you let off the gas and unless you uber-boosting turbo can still force air into the engine your issue is with something else.

The DBW system on the 2.5L turbos doesn't let the throttle plate slam shut immediately if you pull off the throttle very fast.

So is it a live with it issue?

Blame the EPA - but your AP and protune should have taken care of it for you. A lighter flywheel will also help if you don't want to get it tuned out.

Just throwing it out there, as I have no idea about all that goes on in the ECU, but doesn't it seem like the ECU could be adjusted to let the TB snap closed right away?

might be a gloged vacum hose

Yes. I think an AP or other EM would help fix this. The delay is related to helping improve emissions I believe.

Can anyone confirm for sure an AP helps this? This is basically the only thing I don't like about my car. I use the throttle a lot to modulate weight shift, and when the thing feels like it ignores you for a second, it kind of sucks.

It's really noticeable going down hills in a low gear. When you let off the gas and expect the engine braking to slow you, but it feels like the car is in neutral for a second or two... ugh.

It shouldn't be a second or two, it should be a fraction of a second.

I think some of what you're experiencing is the delay in injector cut. When TPS = 0, RPM > ~1300, the car shuts off the injectors. This drop fuel cosumption to zero when you coast in gear. This does take about 2 seconds to happen after you let off the throttle.

edit: I've never had trouble driving the car with this. Having driven NA cars up to my current car, just going to a turbo made far more difference in the way I apply clutch and gas when shifting.
