View Full Version : Final decision on turbo for custom setup...
jetfan8178 05-30-2006, 12:25 PM OK, so I have somewhat narrowed down the field on my turbo choices...
Its been brought to my attention that converting a GT32 to ball bearing and a 51lb compressor wheen was not pratical.
Sooo...
ATP turbo is now using a .78a/r twin scroll t3 housing on GT30/35r series turbos...
My only choice now is gt30r or 35r.
It is only available with the .78a/r exhaust side so either or would be the same. My only question is how much difference in spool will I see between the 30r and 35r?
400whp is really all Im after at the wheels, maybe 450 with meth or alky. If i dont need the extra size I dont want it.
Basically, I have the twin scroll gt32 header already so i will be able to utilize the twin scroll housing.
Let me hear some thoughts. :)
keaniegenie 05-30-2006, 08:45 PM If you want 400whp on pump, get the GT35R. From what I've seen, ATP takes FOREVER to make their kits. Don't count on it. Phil at element tuning has pretty substantial evidence of his GT65 kit spooling faster than GT35R's, but more power than a GT30. I've seen some dyno's and ridden in some cars with that turbo. Silly fast.
sizzflair 05-30-2006, 08:51 PM GT30 if going to be on the streets...
GT35 if lots of track/highway
jetfan8178 05-30-2006, 10:22 PM Im only getting the turbo from ATP, wait should not be a issue.
Car will problably see the track or drag strip rarely. Unfortunatly, as much as I would love to race teh car, I dont have as much time as I would like. In 6 months I barely managed to put 3000 on her total, and 500 were on the drive home from getting the car. LOL
ShaggyGT 05-30-2006, 11:25 PM GT30R will get you to your power goals. The GT30R will spool faster, but the 35R will make more power up top. As far as exactly what the spool up would be I doubt anyone knows since that housing option is fairly new.

STimo 05-31-2006, 02:38 AM I would go for the 30R. It will get you 400whp and even more on meth/race gas. Unless you are going for all out drag racing/highway pulls then i would go for the 35R but you obviously aren't.
AR.64 05-31-2006, 11:43 AM i'd go for the 35R for more power uptop. It does suck that your only option is the twin scroll, becuase it only comes with the a/r .78 option. I'm not sure how much later the boost kicks in fully, but it obviously is later than a .64 a/r for example. My GUESS would be anywhere from 500rpm to a full 1000rpm.

The 35R might be fun up top but if you ever autox the car or track the car you'll be wishing you had the 30R.
i'd go 30R.

i 2nd this as well. the 30r should be able to make 400whp with a good tune and maybe a higher reading dyno.
what i really want to know is how well a twin scroll gt30r would work on an ej207.
jetfan8178 05-31-2006, 12:29 PM Im leaning 30r with the twin scroll housing.
I have a feeling thats going to be a great combo with the larger .78ar and twin scroll as well.
I guess thats the plan...
ka mano 08-05-2006, 01:44 AM Any updates, jetfan8178?
jetfan8178 08-05-2006, 01:52 AM Well, I have a rotated mount exhaust manifold set up for a twin scroll 30r...
But alas, Power Enterprise now wants me to run their kit..
So a PE RX6R turbo kit with manifold is on the way for mid august. ;)
STimo 08-05-2006, 04:39 AM Awesome, im interested to see how that turbo works on our cars compaired to the evos. Good luck. What are the stats of that turbo anyways? lb/min comp wheel? Also what a/r hotside and comp. housing?
jetfan8178 08-05-2006, 08:06 AM I dont have the details on the exact turbo thats coming in my personal kit. It was boxed and put on a boat a while ago so they aren't really sure. Ill basically know when it gets here LOL

you have a 207 in your STi?
I've always wanted to do that, everyone calls me crazy.
Nino, can't wait to see/hear/read about the PE kit.
We may be comming to a Ft. Myers autox in Sept or Oct, it'd be sweet to be able to see this beast all put together :D
jetfan8178 08-05-2006, 02:35 PM I dont know if I could have it here and in by then, but if I can I will try.
I will be at the auto x in sept as well. Its about time I go to one again, I just need to find a invidia silencer for my exhaust.
WRX8XB 08-05-2006, 03:06 PM have they kicked you out already b/c of sound violations?
jetfan8178 08-05-2006, 03:18 PM No, but I went and they said there was no way I would pass LOL
subiespeed 09-06-2006, 06:46 PM any updates?
