I've been out of the security alarm game for a few years.

All I need is a starter alarm with a good range. Something hitech with a cool remote. Dont need any gps tracking or other advanced features.

Ya, I don't think NASIOC is the hippest alarm forum (except for our resident expert netZ of course). But when I was looking originally the Compustars did seem to be the way to go.

I have a CompuStar on my car. Auto Start - Turbo Timer, the worx... Got a little LCD key chain that tells me if my doors have opened or if someone has hit my car! Very cool remote! And I believe the new remotes can work as far as 6000 feet.

i use viper vx791 with remote start. i love it. its got an lcd display 1/4mile visable range. this system is also compatable with its own turbo timer, something i find very handy. my local shop only charged me 10$ for throwing in the turbo timer feature.

Viper vx791 is what i plan on getting. It's got all the necessary features + lots more. It's fairly popular, so I see lots of deals floating around too.

There's plenty of remote start alarms with similar features. Check with your local shop to see if they've got any specials going on.

DEI... Viper 791XV, Python 881XP... many, many others... you need to look at all these alarms/RS and see what features you like

I've got the Compustar 2WSS-AS. It's awesome! The range can't be beat and it's got plenty of features. I even hooked it up to turn on/off my rear defroster using an AUX channel--sweet!
