We wired up my Valentine 1 last night on the WRX, very clean install everything is nicely hidden (thanks to my buddy Jay)
So on my way to work this morning, I noticed that when I hit the open/closed loop change over in the ECU my radar detector goes off like Im getting a laser strike. Is this due to the OEM (read piss poor) grounding off the engine bay components or is it an issue in my detector?
Fwiw we tapped off the cig. lighter power for the power source to feed the detector.
Thanks
Shawn

How old is your V1? There was a known issue with the older power adapters that would cause false laser alerts due to voltage fluctuations, Valentine updated the adapters some time ago to fix it. If you have one of those older adapters a call to Valentine should get you a new one. If this is a new unit try relocating the adapter to a different location, perhaps the fuse box.

fwiw, i've never had the issue with my V1 on my '05. my V1 is also hard wired to the cig lighter. however, i've read about x50 users who had this problem with their STIs. try searching about that

I was referring to the adapter that Valentine provides with the unit for direct wiring, that is what your wires are connected to.
Give them a call, explain the problem you are having and tell them what version V1 you have (they'll ask for the serial #). Chances are they will end up sending you a new power adapter that will solve the problem.

I dont have a unit for direct wiring. I took the 4 wire phone cord that came with it, we found + and - and spliced into the cig. lighter wiring. I'll give Valentine Labs a call today though

Well that's a problem right there, you aren't supposed to do that. The power adapter has a filter in it to prevent the type of problem you are having. I guess you bought your unit used and the adapter wasn't included?
Also you're fortunate that the V1 operates on 12V unlike some other detectors that use lower voltages. If you try to connect those without their respective adapters you'll blow them up.

hrmm...I'll look into that more then. I didn't have any issues in past cars, I guess the WRX puts out more "noise" then my previous cars.

Valentine is aware of the issues regarding our cars, and have shipped me the appropriate parts (free) to fix the issue. This is the second time I have dealt with V. Labs and am always pleased with the service and treatment I receive.
(thumbs up)
