View Full Version : Can anyone recommend a small, 2CH, amp for my front door a/d/s 6.5" comps? Satan 05-31-2006, 01:49 PM Preferably a class-D amp that is smaller than 11" x 11" and around $200? Am I asking the impossible? teiva-boy 05-31-2006, 01:56 PM one thing is for sure, you don't want a class-d for anything other then subs. LastResort 05-31-2006, 01:58 PM Those are garbage, and to properly dispose of them, you need to box them up carefully, and priority mail them to me! :D You don't want class-D for those. I'm sure you *can* make a nice small D-class that will work well up to 20kHz, but I don't think many car audio companies do that. They are usually use on subs, and are very much BIG and the products reflect that. Go standard AB. You can try to track down an used ads powerplate, they are small, and are very efficient, so very little excess heat. It's a shame DEI bought them out and promptly neutered them. offset 05-31-2006, 02:51 PM So noone is a big fan of the new PDX line of amps from Alpine huh :p I haven't heard one myself, but I am willing to bet they work well for the average guy. Oh, that is except for price. That is the part that is impossible. Anyway, PM sent regarding an amp for sale. offset Satan 05-31-2006, 03:21 PM Thanks offset, replied to your PM. I wish I could afford a PDX right now. as far as trying to find an old a/d/s amp... I found a decent one on ebay, but the dimensions aren't listed. We'll see I guess. That is the part that is impossible. Yeah, I've seen a few full range switching amplifiers, the price still is pretty high, and without hearing one.....I'm still skeptical. They will get their though, it's mostly just a question of upping transistor speeds and improving filtering. But I do lookforward to the all digital interconnect. Then we will see companies sell 700 dollar digital cables. Satan 05-31-2006, 03:58 PM If its a two channel its pretty small, which one is it? the P2110, the guy just got back to me about the dimensions as I was typing this, L 10.5 X W 11.6 X H 2.4 hmm...something to think about I guess. Is that a decent amp? Kinda old... Kinda old... I have the ADS P440.2 which is the 40W 4 channel newer version of that. It's a work horse. I'm running a 10" DDAudion and a set of JL VR 6" components of it. What are you going to run with it? Satan 05-31-2006, 04:31 PM I'll only run a set of 6.5" a/d/s/ comps with it. LastResort 05-31-2006, 04:42 PM I'll only run a set of 6.5" a/d/s/ comps with it. That's right.....duh..right at the top of the thread. It will be a good pairing. I just hope the amp is working & in good shape. Satan 05-31-2006, 04:46 PM well, he says the amp was used for display in a shop and never powered up. He'll ship it ground from LA so I'm sure I'll be waiting for a damn month for it! If it's cherry like he says it is, it will be worth it. Whats it going to cost you? Satan 05-31-2006, 05:04 PM If it's cherry like he says it is, it will be worth it. Don't believe me, listen to my car :D Funny thing is I have them hooked up to ADS comps! 345is to be exact. The amps are smaller than the crossovers Charge 06-01-2006, 12:04 AM The P2110 is more than powerful enough for those speakers. It's a little over 100watts x2 I believe. I run a PH30.2(75x6) and my front stage is an older set(from 2000) of CDT CL61's. While I occasionally wish I had bridged the front four to drive that stage...that's only cause of my sub. If you are only running a front stage, it'll be more than potent enough. Especially if you do a bit of sound deadening on the door as well. |
