WRX Fan 10-21-2001, 06:21 PM Gary:
I think you need some i-club stickers for that car! There is 5 hp each extra for the cause!
Keep up the good work!
8Complex 10-21-2001, 06:29 PM I'm wondering how someone gets a gig like this. I'd love to race the USTCC, but what type of pay is in it? I'll have to review the rules a bit more, but just in case you guys ever need another driver, don't hesitate to ask. :)
pio!pio! 10-21-2001, 06:44 PM I was looking at the California Speedway webpage for tickets or for race times for your race but it wasn't mentioned anywhere!

pio!pio! 10-22-2001, 01:38 AM patience! :)
Gary always tells the best stories :)
So is the aero package complete now? maybe undercarriage stuff? Wind tunnel use?
No more engine mods?
TV3WRX 10-22-2001, 01:39 AM Gary's drive today was absolutely awe-inspiring, and not just to the Scoob fans. Minds were blown and much respect was earned, for both car and driver.
Lap 1: Gary, on row 1 for the rolling start, clearly had the faster car, and got a nose out on eventual Winner James Sofranes in a BMW 328 going into turn 1. Things were looking good. Then, a Honda Si behind them brakes WAY late for the turn, and smashes hard into the back of the WRX, badly damaging the right side and rear of the car, and spinning both cars into the dirt and to the very back of the pack. We thought he was done for the day for sure.
But what does he do? He drives the mangled car, (flailing body parts and all), up through the entire twenty-five (or thirty?) car field, just catching the second place car in the last turn for a dramatic side-by-side drag to the finish, only a couple of seconds behind the winner! Wow. Gary just flat drove the wheels off the thing, and his performance was THE story of the race. Afterward, everyone wanted to shake the hand of the man who had turned lap times more than two seconds faster than the winner's, and who had turned an apparant DNF into a podium finish. Simply unreal.
Joel: Congrats on preparing the car. It was clearly the best today.
Tom (from Kartboy): It was great to meet you. Help me out here with the race blow-by-blow, so I dont sound like such a gushing "fan". And if you have any pics.....well, let's see 'em!
OT Challenge 10-22-2001, 01:47 AM Sounds like a great race. Sofronas is a mad man.

GarySheehan 10-22-2001, 06:33 AM Hey everyone,
We just rolled in and I'm pretty tired. It was a long, crazy day. I'll fill you in on the details later. Here's a picture of the once beautiful USTCC WRX. Now, with only 3 weeks until Sears Point, we've REALLY got a lot of work to do.

In2Deep 10-22-2001, 07:22 AM Congrats on the podium finish! :)
Question: what kind of tires do you run on your car?
pio!pio! 10-22-2001, 08:13 AM Question for Gary or crew: How has the new aero package affected tire wear?
10th Warrior 10-22-2001, 12:59 PM Question: what kind of tires do you run on your car?
all competitors run hossiers.
wow, quite the story and quite the amazing drive to make it on the podium with a damaged car. its just a matter of time and luck it seems until the first win. glad you're ok.
deepbeep 10-22-2001, 06:38 PM I just consulted the Magic 8-Ball, and see a Breakfast of Champions Wheaties box in your future!!! Congrats on a most impressive win!
skywalker 10-22-2001, 07:14 PM Damn, you guys rock! Congratulations on a most impressive race. I have never heard of such a race in a long time. Sounds like that Subaru is setup to perfection...

pio!pio! 10-23-2001, 04:18 AM love that pic!! it is now my wallpaper!
Love the foglight removal for some ram air
Hm..have you considered the headlight mod? (the one where they paint the inner housing black so it doesn't look like a neon) Would look a lot better IMHO and draw people to buy scoobies. Or morettes!
