One guy working by himself. Any guesses how long it will take? I've never done this before. Have to dismantle the clip and move the engine/tranny into my truck.

View Full Version : How long will it take to dismantle a front clip? oldhat 06-01-2006, 02:21 AM One guy working by himself. Any guesses how long it will take? I've never done this before. Have to dismantle the clip and move the engine/tranny into my truck. Hurley 2.5 WRS 06-01-2006, 02:54 AM engine lift? id recomend another person, way better, at least for pulling the engine oldhat 06-01-2006, 02:55 AM Yes, got a hoist. There are going to be a couple of guys in the garage space but they're going to be working. Don't want to bother them too much, but I guess I can ask them to help out when I hook it up to the hoist. Hurley 2.5 WRS 06-01-2006, 03:52 AM you could probably do it in a full day if you work fast, but id give it at least 2. take pics before you start so you know where everything goes, and its a good idea to put the bolts/nuts back where they go so you know where they go when reassembling it. and good luck! kheff46 06-01-2006, 10:57 AM i did it in three by myself with my eyelid stitched to my forehead(seriously). so a day is definately possible if you're on a mission. and two would be easily done by a single person. good luck guy! keep everything, and use lots of seperate boxes for things related. --keith Jaxx 06-01-2006, 11:15 AM if its your first time at least a day tzedek 06-01-2006, 12:00 PM everything is a lot easier to get at on clips usually. rob 06-01-2006, 02:51 PM Easiest to disconnect hoses/wires, unbolt the crossmember and lift the shell off of the motor/tranny. Get you hands on some air tools to make it go faster. As suggested, fill up your digi camera with pictures of everything and keep everything you can get your hands on (bolts/wiring/brackets attached to the shell, etc). You never know what will come in handy when swap time comes. -Rob Hurley 2.5 WRS 06-01-2006, 11:54 PM ^^^thats what i did, but its kinda hard with one guy unless he has a lift. rob 06-02-2006, 02:07 AM He said he has a hoist. Also some jack stands to rest the tranny and motor on before you start taking things apart. A couple of floor jacks might come in handy as well. -Rob scobaru 06-02-2006, 03:21 AM I took me almost a month but this was in a rented garage storage place it could be done in a day with a few people.... What my brother and I did was put crossmemeber tranny crossmemeber on jack stands then lift up the front clip so whats left was the engine trans on the jack stands it was pretty cool Hurley 2.5 WRS 06-02-2006, 04:36 AM He said he has a hoist. It wasn't hard doing it this way myself with an engine lift/hoist/whatever. Lift the whole clip up, put it down on jackstands under the crossmember and tranny. Undo hoses/electricals/crossmember bolt points/shifter. Lift shell off of the motor with the engine lift/hoist/whatever. You should have no problem doing it in 6hrs. After doing it once, I could probably do it in 2-3 no problem. -Rob |
