Thought i would share with some of you how fun and how big of a PITA the swap is.
I have had my engine in my car for about 4months. Im running a EJ20G w/ a B3 ecu and a td04 turbo(came out of a wagon).
First of, these swaps are extrealy fun and entertaining. People on the track and on the streats dont think anything about the vehicle.
Price wise, you could have a EJ20 swap for under 5K with the car, or as much as 15K+. if you can build it yourself its pritty cheap, if you paysomeone to do it, your looking to spend some serious money. Another problem is parts, most things can be bought from the dealership(just have to use diff. model engines), but some are almost imposable.
Now the good stuff. These older engines are strong, and to me seems like they are better the the USDM WRW engines.(this is my opinion). This is if you get a good engine. The major consern that i would have to way is head gaskets, but thats the same thing as the 98RS.
All in all they are a blast, but are pritty expensive at the same time. The odds are, something will break and when it does you have to pay someone to fix it, or do it yourself.

hope this helps some people thinking about a swap. if anyone has any more imput, throw in your .o2

one more thing. make sure that before you start this project you have a 2nd vehicle to get around in. ive seen a swap done in 1day, and have also seen them take over 3months. so always aim for the worst, and dont expect your car to start up 1st time.

^^^ Second that. Mine took about 2 months before the car was drivable. Fortunately I was able to work from home at least 3 days a week and borrow cars from people when I really needed one.

about the reliability issue, i've had several sources agree with you saying the old JDM EJ20s are just as reliable if not more then USDM WRXs

if you think about it, older engines ej20g's will last just as long if not longer. back in the 90's the ECU's where not as advanced, so to make up for that they had to build strong motors to put up w/ the ECU if it messed up.
I took my car to the track, and after 100+ track miles, and 3 Solo2 events ive only burned 1/3qt. if you ask anyone that is hella good for an old motor. :p

well....I worked on my wire harness....and i've taken the lower dash out....I still have my *'99 EJ22 heads/project '93 EJ22T shortblock* motor in there. So the car will probably get taken apart after I know which wires in my FACTORY harness to splice into. Possibly this Tuesday night afterwork I'll get started on the harness and engine swap.
