Ford offers gasoline cards, plus zero percent financing
Associated Press
DETROIT - One week after General Motors Corp. introduced a plan to cap gas prices for buyers in California and Florida, Ford Motor Co. is jumping into the gas-rebate game with an offer of free gas for the rest of the year.

Ford said nearly all its 2006 vehicles -- including the Ford Fusion sedan, F-150 pickup truck and Mustang V-6 coupe -- will be eligible for zero percent financing and a prepaid debit card that can be used to buy as much as $1,000 worth of gas, or $1,100 for some trucks and sport utility vehicles. Purchases must be between June 1 and July 31.

Ford said the amount on the gas card will be based on each vehicle's fuel economy rating, assuming 1,000 miles of driving a month and a gas price of $2.91 a gallon.

Additional cash will be available on some slower-selling models. The Ford Expedition sport utility vehicle will come with a $4,000 rebate, while the Ford Explorer will come with $1,500 cash back. Expedition sales fell 24 percent in the first four months of this year versus the same period of 2005; Explorer sales were down 30 percent.

Ford also is offering $2,500 cash back on the F-150.

I wonder what kind of kickbacks they get from big oil for continuing to produce these gas guzzlers.

I think we can be pretty sure that all of the Big Three are doing anything they can to keep the SUV's selling. They are the only vehicles that they make any profit on as for soem reason they just can't make a competitively priced car that generates profit.

We are nothing if not stubborn - and the worst is yet to come. Real estate in Michigan is likely a bad investment right now.

if they offer this for a GT500, well, that might be pretty damn enticing

Hey, that's not a bad idea! Give the vehicles away for free, but you have to pay for all repairs... no warranty. Maybe GM and Ford can dig themselves out of thier financial woes this way. :p

checking the ford site it doesnt seem the 0% has been put into effect yet.....My sister and myself are both looking at Expeditions

Kidding. Jokes aside a focus wouldnt make a bad commuter car (halfway decent gas mileage plus some nice rebates AND potentially 0% financing....)

instead of a focus get a nice little honda fit. So much nicer interior, and better on fuel.

If they offered the GT500 with 0% and kickbacks that would be great...but that'd be like subaru offering the same for the STi limited...just never going to happen :(

Can't Ford come up with their own marketing strategy instead of always bandwagoning GM
