I've just been trying to decide on a safe target AFR range for my setup and want to see how it flies with you guys. This is UTEC controlled but shouldn't be UTEC specific so I'll pop the post out in this section.

My 0% starts at -4 and 100% is 20 psi. I'm generaly shooting for an 18 psi map keeping the 100% as a backup, but once everything is ironed out and the motor is broken in, I'll run a map to use the 100% for emergencies.

This is just a little tweak to the base AFR table that NavyBlue put together. Leaning a little down low to help some spool and fattening up at peak torque for safety. ( I divided off the peak torque-ish RPMs into seperate sections for your viewing pleasure)

Does this look like an acceptable goal to start my tuning all over from? Not going for max power at this point, just a clean start that'll give some leeway for timing and fuel. Something that'll let me get in more than 3 logging runs before I have to rebuild the motor again. :p

The mods that matter:

I'm running a DB KongII (VF22 with the trimmings) that is capable of 18 psi by 3300 at the lowest, usually 3500+ though. Boost is UTEC controlled GMBC and an unused for now, TurboXS dual Stg. BC. (not activated and stg1 is closed)

Then as the air flows:

TurboXS intake with my own 3" turbo inlet pipe.
TXS FMIC and their recirc BOV.
Tumbler Delete.
Perrin mod injectors that I think are still in the mid 60% DC range at 18 psi making mid 10s for AFR.
Mahle pistons which I think bump the compression up just a tad.
Stock exhaust manifold, BMP uppipe, Invidia V3 (divorced bell) downpipe, borla hush.

Thanks!

looks good to me, if a bit rich/conservative, but that's what you're after at this point.

Yeah, sweet... that's how I want to start. I just wanted to make sure none of those numbers went richer when they should have gone leaner or vice versa. I've been reading, for what, two years now on tuning the UTEC. I've forgotten more than I've learned. A little reassurance that I haven't read myself retarded is a good thing. Thanks.

I'll post my timing up too and make sure that's a reasonable amount across the board. From my previous tune, I had a good idea of what the timing should be to stay safe down the 90/100% columns. With that goal in mind, I set all the columns from 0% to 50 or 60% 'ECU' for a while to get some logs of what the car wanted to do, then I put in my own numbers from 10% back up to mimick the 'flow' the ECU made, but taking a few steps more at a time to bend them to where I thought they should be to be safe at full boost. It came out pretty well. I'd had good smooth transitions before, but under mild accelerations, my old numbers in the 20-30-40 range would make the car feel kinda weak. Like it was lugging. I'd describe it like having the 2nd pair of barrels open too soon on a 4 bbl. carb.

With this ECU imitation I managed to 'zen' out a timing that had no crossover hesitation, and pulls through the lower loads without feeling lugged out. First try.

Anyhoo, I'll try to get AFR results like this and nail the boost down. Then I'll start playing with making better power. I'm actually a bit leaner than m targets across the power band right now and I'm not seeing any knock at all. It feels pretty good. I'd just rather stay safer this time around.

FYI, my goal is still 450 crank HP and to do so with 93 pump gas and under 20 psi. Or is that a pipe dream even on a hoss vf22?

Looks conservative and safe. Good starting point.

Sounds like a normal VF22 spool on a 2L.

FYI, my goal is still 450 crank HP and to do so with 93 pump gas and under 20 psi. Or is that a pipe dream even on a hoss vf22?

Not gonna happen with a VF22 compressor wheel. I don't know what the KongII is rated at, but that seems like a lot for a 22 base. Good luck with the project!
