I bought a 99 EJ25 with 60k on it supposedly.

the first thing that i noticed was that it was stored outside and the pulleys and clutch and pressure plate were allowed to rust up. I'm going to be replacing the crank pulley with a Mr Josh, is it possible to reuse the power steering pulley and clean the rust out of the teeth somehow? it turns fine.

I'm going to be replacing the clutch and pressure plate apparantly. do you think the flywheel will be in similar condition when i take the clutch and pressure plate off? does anyone have a good condition used flywheel they could spare?

This is one set of exhaust ports on the passenger side. looks like regular amounts of carbon build-up to me (plus a spider's egg sac in the left one), but what's the best way to clean it up a little short of a port and polish i can't afford?

As you can see in this shot of the driver's side head (which i didn't until i got the engine home because i'm an idiot) the harness circled in red is broken off where it goes into the head and the rear piece of the belt cover is broken (it looked like it was just missing the piece that covers the front of that side, and i'm an idiot). anyone know what part the harness is off-hand? is it replaceable? am i going to have to replace that rusty pulley as well or can i sand the rust off somehow? does anyone know the part# for the oil filler tube which is also torn off or want to donate one to my cause? (i'm losing my job in a week because i had a previous agreement with my boss that i would work full time for him except for the week of Bonnaroo because i'm working security there... he forgot we had this talk before he hired me and that's pretty much that. i'm broke.)

I also got the ECU and it looks like most of the wiring is intact. will i be alright swapping the ECUs or will that cause problems with my inspection / insurance since it'll come up on the 'puters as a 2.5rs? i've looked around a lot on the forums about this, but couldn't find a straight answer.

I'm still looking for a really cheap exhaust manifold and probably an RS exhaust if anyone's got one.

wow, i didn't think i had that many questions... thanks in advance!

I just looked at my Rs motor that I pulled out for my Sti swap, the broken connector looks to go into some kinda cam angle sensor of some sort. As for the flywheel, it should be fine to use if you get it resurfaced. Always get the flywheel resurfaced when putting a new clutch and PP on. The power steering pullley should be fine to use, I would simply get a wire brush and clean the rust off, and possibly even repaint, if you want to that is. Same for the cam pulley but don't repaint, just get the cover for it.

BTW, before you put that motor in, I would definatley do some routine maintence while it's out. Spark plugs, wires, timing belt, rear main seal, and make sure no water got into it while sitting. Someone should've atleast covered it up.

If I can find a box big enough I'll sell you the factory exhaust manifold for a fair price, but it might be costly to ship cause it's heavy and an aqward shape. Mine had 70,000 miles on it when pulled. I'll get back to ya. Good luck!!

i'm actually going to be close to nashville for bonnaroo, but we're not taking my car because it's in no condition to make the trip right now. i wish i could, though, i'd probably pick it up from ya. if my friend's driving an suv or hatchback maybe i'll get back to you, crazyGC8, but for now i think i'm going to look a little closer to home. how much does it usually cost to resurface a flywheel? i'm not going to have to go to a transmission shop, am i?
anyone got any input on my ecu dilemma?

I guess I'm not sure what you're asking about here. Your insurance shouldn't have anything to do with what ECU is in the car. They might be interested in the car having a 2.5L, but even that isn't a big deal - the car came with a N/A 4cyl, and it will still have a N/A 4cyl (just one that's moderately more powerful).

What kind of inspection are you worried about?

Pat

PS - crazyGC8, you don't need to quote another person's entire post to reply to it. Note how I quoted only what I was actually replying to?

I just wanted to know what would be best for inspection. i spend more than half the year in westchester, so i'd like it to be legal down there just in case (even though i have it inspected upstate where i live the other <half year). i just want to make sure i'm not throwing cels just because i'm using the wrong ecu (if that's even possible)

so, i'm going to crack the block on sunday to start the rebuild, but i still need an exhaust (i have the stock RS header pipe, but nothing further) do you know if my OBS exhaust will mate up or do i need to source a used RS exhaust? Also, i have the 99 RS's ej25 ECU, but i think it was maf based and my obs is map... am i right? am i going to want to try and use my current ecu and throttlebody or should i try to find a maf intake and use the maf ecu?

...also (afterthought), my dad just bought a 97 (i think) legacy gt sedan that has a very nice sounding/looking stock exhaust. would one of these be usable or is it too long/has too many different bends? i know there are a bunch of these in local junk yards because i know a few highschoolers have crashed them locally. somehow there are never imprezas in the yards by me...
