Went to an exhaust shop in the LA area and had an Evo 2 GReddy exhaust intalled on my 2005 WRX. Driving it around after about 20 miles, I noticed a rattle that occured when I would go over bumps. This sound never happened before (it sounds like 2 light metal pieces are close to each other and loose, there is a vibrating sound that makes a rattle which dies down). At first I thought a piece of metal was dragging on the assfault.
Looked under the car and the only thing I noticed is the fitting around one of the cat converters (the cat that appears 2 nd from the tip of the exhuast) seems like a sandwhich that should be closed. This may confuse everything, but on the old exhaust, the cat converter seems like a cylender that is completely closed. This seems a tad open (like an oyster shell peeking).
Any ideas what may have happened. Bad install? Is there some type of fitting that should have been done? Take matters into my own hands?
thanks for your help guys.

You should notice it being really loud because your leaking unmuffled exhaust. That donut should be flush and close.
Go back and tell them to do it right.

Exhaust isn't really that loud. Sounds deep and subtle. It's really just a rattle that is being heard when I go over bumps and shut the engine off (seems like it always rattles to a stop....is that normal?)

Anyone see a problem here or is it normal for it to rattle a tad?
here are some pictures of it underneath:

It looks flush to me. I would get under the car while it is on jackstands and shake the whole exhaust to see if it it contacting anything anywhere. If not, go up and down the exhaust and hit it with a rubber mallet to see if indeed it is your exhaust.

yeah,
looking under the car when I kill the engine shows me that the whole pipe kind of shakes back and forth. Is that normal?

your exhaust is probably hitting the cross member brace. get under there and look to see if the brace is hitting. it could also be where the drive shaft bracket is too. check there.

I bet it's hitting the rear diff. I have the SP2 and it's very close to the rear diff. I believe mine does not hit since I have Kartboy exhaust hangers. I would suggest getting some.

Looks like you were right on. Thanks for the suggestion. It appears that the rear differential was making contact with the EVO 2 exhaust and rattle during bumps and shut down.
The guys at Brainstorm were really nice and took care of it for free. They adjusted the hanger and shaved some of the pipe to eliminate contact with the two parts. They also noticed my cartboy short shifter was making contact with the plate mount under the boot. Shaved that off too. Kind of scary way to fix things, but seemed to fix it. The hanger's you suggested seem like a good alternitive.
