Saw a Jeep with the licplate "96LJEEP" or something, in a custom Alaska plate.
My girlfriend noticed it and I actually broke the speed limit (OMG eurojax broke a law) to catch up with him, sure enough, 7 letters.
When did 7 letters become an option? The state shows that you can still only get 2-6 letters  Did this dude work for the DMV or something? I've been waiting for 7 letters to be an option, as I know a good 7 letter word I'd like to get on my car. ;)
Any ideas?

Was the plate different than the "Standard", "Mountain", or "Caribou"?
Maybe it's an option on other special issue plates.

You can get phony plates made with 7 characters. Otherwise, I've heard rumors of people within the DMV system being able to get 7 character plates.

So is that 2-6 letters including spaces? or can you have one like: xxx xxx ?

2 to 6 characters, including spaces.

Seems mighty retarded to me. As it is now the "standard" issue plate has 7 characters (xxx<space>###) I dont see how that is different than "GOT WRX" (which is 6 characters and a space) the only thing I can figure is if it is the bear or gold rush plate and reserve the central "space" for the graphic of the gold miners or the bear.
I'd assume the DMV peopel are not extremely bright. Or perhaps are using antiquated systems. Much like old DOS limits of 8 and 3, perhaps "custom plates 1.15" is limited to 6 plus 2 (6 characters plus 2 for plate design)

I've also seen a 7-character plate. "OLDFART" I believe. It was in a parkinglot so I got a chance to double-check to see if it was missing any letters to actually have 6 characters, but they were all there. I didn't go poke and prod at it though, so it may have been fake...but it sure looked real and was in front and back (with a cripple tag in the window!).
