after i purchased my rex in portland and drove it back up to the ak, i was in anchorage for all of about 2 hours before i was pulled over for the tinted windows....i'm guessin its just bad luck cause i see quite a few peeps with really dark tint....either that or everyone and their mother has photophobia  ....i know some of you went to eye docs and got tested, just wondering who you went to and if you could give me there numbers or at least company name and i can look em up myself. thanks

well, unless you are good friends with your eye doc, they are not going to sign off on a waiver just so you can have darker tint. that's like writing a prescription for a drug that you don't really need. that doctor puts his name and occupation on the line whenever he signs something. it's doubtful (unless he knows you well) any doc would put his entire life and reputation on the line if it's not valid. and btw, the waiver is only valid for one year, it must be renewed each year or you're SOL again.

do you wear corrective lenses (in particular contacts)? if not, then there's no way any doc will ever sign you a waiver. if so, and you start really complaining about your eyes being light sensitive, they may do a few tests, or just to shut you up, give you a waiver after a few visits. but that's gonna cost some money or you have good insurance.

my eye doc just moved back to haines yesterday but will be back in a year to do his check ups with his regular customers.

good luck!

whats cool is the note Hope has, she has two of. one for my car because she drives my car also. So if I get pulled over for tint, I just show them the note and I'm all good. :D

befriend a doc pronto... most docs have heard it all before so you wont have much of a chance if your claim is totally bogus. keep sunglasses in your car at all times (I keep two pairs) and just hope your note works! Unless you are incredibly obnoxious or the cop is an absolute dick they won't follow up on something as minor as a tint violation.

This is Alaska...docs write bogus scripts all the time! Ah, the Greatland. ;)

You need any doctor pretty much to sign it, however, that note from them is something we all wish we could have for tint. If I did, I would put limo tint all around. :D

um, not really. if they are caught for bogus prescriptions or doing anything unethical, they can lose their license and board certification. most docs are unwilling to put themselves on the line for someone they don't know. you can ask, but.... don't be surprised if they say no.

It is hard to get a doctors note, but I have one. Go to an eye doctor and tell them that the sun hurts your eyes and you get headaches, pay for an eye exam and then have him/her sign the paper. That is what i did.

lol. well, again, i think it'll depend on your eye doc you go to.

What is the legal limit for tint in ak anyway?

its kind of a pain for them, apparently, mine gets asked at least 2-3 times a month. she said she'll write one for me if i give her my pair of ray bans

unless it's changed, it was 70% front (stock from factory) and 40% on rear. but i've been told, it's mainly the fronts they are concerned with and not the rear. the back windshield can be whatever you want i believe. and this is only for cars. trucks can be whatever they want! wtf?? how is that fair??

lol lovin all the stories folks, but once again i am left empty handed, i don't have any eye doc in special that i go to, i have really good insurance, and money isn't much of an issue to me, ask nate dog, he owes me 2500 cash monay monay  !!

either way, good stories/problems, but still no one has given me 7 digits with which i can use on a telephone that will by chance if i'm lucky end up letting me talk about getting an eye check up appointment with some hot secretary that works for any particular eye docter. All i really know, is that i don't want to pay $160 for my front and $160 for my back windows....i guess i could peel the tint off and get it re-tinted after i find a doc willing to give me a note

friggen poshneesh

I know this doesn't help you FOV but is the fix it ticket void if you get a note from a doc after getting the ticket?

And I can for numbers just point you in the direction of the yellow pages and let your fingers do the walking.

couple times i pull up near a state troopie
or even anchorage police and not to jinx myself but
no blue light special at all....i know my tint is dark
had it done in nebraska....25% front 20% back and 5% rear window
(illegal) in aksarben but he said since im running out of state plates i should be fine
and i have been ever since...i did a road trip to kansas, oklahoma and texas with no problems.... *shrug*
if its a tad bit dark inside...i just open the moon roof...Lmao so thats what thats for?

best of luck to everyone

um, not really.

Um, really. ;) I can't actually speak for eyedocs, sans drops, but if you filled Rx's for a living, you'd see how bad this state really is. When I mentioned scripts, I was more joking about medicine. We're the #1 narcotic-dropping state in the union, most fraud Rx's by docs, and the Wal*Mart Pharmacy on A Street is the highest-volume CII (highest level of controlled substance legally written for) dispensing Pharmacy in North America.

Anyhoo, I was making a joke, but you shouldn't be so quick to make assumptions. ;)

i'm sure you see a lot that most consumers don't see... kinda scary really. :(

find someone with the same color car as yours and switch plates and bring it to the station, thats what a friend did with his EVO, lol.

yeah, i liked the way my car looked with tinted windows, but APD already profiled me as a gangster, so i can't have tint:banana:
