Protege Menace 06-06-2006, 02:26 AM meh typical jens  recce02 06-07-2006, 01:27 AM Funny? The posts towards the end are very serious, as a rally driver seeing pics of side impact crashes have always given me the chills. I think it is definately up to the rally crew to figure out how fast they should run. I have run the Laughlin Rally a couple of times and there are some 3 digit stages for miles at a time! Hella fast but as the race is in the desert there are no trees around. But there are Huge boulders just off of the road. Just crazy. I guess for myself, since I drive my rally car everyday that, I tend to be a bit more cautios during a rally. Probably drive at 85%. Who knows what will happen once I have a different daily driver. I am more out there to gain experience and have fun hoping that one day I will be confident enough to go fast. I definately will be making some additional changes to my roll cage. That is for sure. Anyways Peace out Marvin Gravel Crew Rally Team USA XenoWolf 06-07-2006, 03:32 AM Ugh, don't drag SpecialStage drama here (especially in such a pointless way), please! GhostRide 06-07-2006, 04:29 AM I think the topic had some good issues. Not much different than a standard Nasioc post battle. With that- I agree with the limiting of speed concept that was discussed, but you have to take into consideration that the roads that are available are not always the best idea. Sad thing is that rally is a "self control" reliant sport, aka gas pedal=floor is not always the best idea. The worst part is that everyone tries to take it too serious, too competitive, yes maybe you have sponsors and yes maybe you have won once or twice, but this is not a career in the US, running above your limits can ruin the sport for everyone. i.e more accidents/injury = rising costs and more bad press. That being said, as a competitor I find that taking a step back and conversing with the other person in the car is the best way to find a "comfort zone" for racing. Nothing can be planned for completely and although you may have taken every precaution in safety, racing is always going to be a very dangerous sport. Accept that and just race, if not stay in your armchairs and internet argue, because in here everyone can be right. oh and wassssup Marvin. Der Schnitzel 06-07-2006, 06:41 AM I would say that while there are some comical points, its a pretty serious issue. Our car is pretty fast but we are now forced to think about ways to extend our top speed a good bit in order to keep after the faster cars in our class. This may not be as much an issue if not for events like 100AW and STPR. For myself I do not mind the speed as such but it does make for some hard thinking. Making a mistake at 45mph can be fatal but making one at 115mph has a much higher chance of being so. I do however understand that speed is in and of itself not the only issue in being safe. In short its an issue worth talking about but lets keep it real. For RallyVW we are happy to go fast. We understand that the rules and the playing field are level and we will go toe to toe with those in our class on our own merits. Sadly however we sorta have a knife in a gun fight. Our diesel will pull about as hard as an open class car our of a turn or up a hill thanks to its torque but we take a beating about everywhere else. As a result we strive to make adjustments to keep us going faster and on par with the best in the sport. With that we hope that we are all able to keep an eye on being safe. We love the sport but I'm not interested in seeing someone die. I have a great deal of respect for those I know from these events and don't care to see anything bad happen to any of them. Yotsuya 06-07-2006, 11:40 AM Hey, Protoge, what can you tell us about side impacts: :) Will you be at Shooting Star or Ojibwe this year; maybe I can feel guilty denying cars dust windows again. That thread from 100AW on Rally America was pretty interesting; I'm glad Pinker didn't hold it against me personally. |
