I have heard intake and exhaust wont matter, how about replacing/moddifying the ecu? anything else important?

Any mod you do will void the warranty on the affected areas.

What I mean is if you replace the suspension and your frame cracks (would never happen) then the dealer would probably void your warranty, but you left the engine stock the engine will still be under warranty.

Get it?

If they can prove that the mod you did caused the failure it is not under warranty.

I recently purchased a 2002 WRX Sport Wagon from the dealer in Tucson. I was unsuccessful in agreeing to a price for accessories. I found the accessories that I wanted at SubaruParts.com, at a very good price and there is no shipping cost or sales tax. My question is does the installation of genuine subaru parts, for example the sport shock absorbers and springs, void the warranty of the car? The new car sales manager at the local dealer stated that the use of "high performance" parts would void the warranty. Can any one directly point to the part of the warranty agreement that would allow or disallow the use of Subaru accessories as it relates to the new car warranty?

in order for it to still be under warranty...one of subaru's techs would have to install it...and that is pricey!...

Here's a question. I went to my dealer to get my car aligned last month. On the work order they have the following comments:

Car is altered and suspention modified (springs). Different rims, struts removed and springs were replaced, car dropped 2.5"(more like 1")from specs. Then they wrote alignment way out of specs. Unable to udjust anymore,, max adjustment cant get to specs. Grind strut holes oblong for more udjustment,perform for rear and l/f strut.


Now this is the part that I thought was strange. Why the hell would they have to drill holes in my f---en car. Does this mean that something was wrong with my car in the first place? Are they not telling me something? Someone help me please!!!!!!!!!:mad:

Kick me if I am out of line (this is my car ignorance here) but if he puts his stock stuff back on, then gets an alighnment, the goes back to aftermarket...won't he just have defeated the purpose?

I'd say so.

If you alter the ECU and the dealer finds out about it, you're pretty much guaranteed any future warranty concerns will be very hard to get over on them. I know, SEMA blah blah blah, but come on, common sense here.

As far as Subaru parts on your car, if the suspension was stock RS suspension, then you'd still have the car's warranty. Subaru parts like the STi V5 suspension doesn't void your warranty, but doesn't include a warranty of it's own, either. So, if a perch fails, you're out of luck.

i think it just depends on the dealer you go to. mine seems ok but don't know yet, my intake should be here soon so i guess i'll find out then.

well why endanger your warranty by going in with all these aftermarket parts on? couldnt he have gone somewhere else to get it done and had no worries?

Aftermarket parts are aftermarket parts, no installer is going to warranty anything as far as a warranty is concerned, especially if you just drop off parts. You take on the responsiblity when you modify your car.

SOA won't even warranty your car if they know you raced it around solo II. I don't think you should mod your car if you are concerned about warranty. That is why I am not going to mod until the warranty runs out.

Ok, here's what I'm thinking: if you put on a few mods like a MBC or Injen intake, etc it'd be a wise thing to keep the original parts in your trunk. For instance, if your engine or trans has developed some kind of a problem and you have to call roadside assistance or are going to take it in yourself, just put the stock stuff back on beforehand. Hell, even a BOV they might bitch about. Just be cool about!

Installing suspension upgrade kit and the muffler/exhaust performance accessories will not void your warranty. However, these accessories are sold 'as is' without any warranty coverage. All implied warranties, including all warranties of merchantability of fitness for a particular purpose, are excluded. These accessories are intended for off-highway application only. They may bring the vehicle out of compliance with safety standards. They can only be lawfully installed by the end user.

All other accessories for the WRX can be installed by the dealer or at the port or by yourself and will NOT affect your warranty.

ive talked to numerous dealers, and mechanics, and basicly if the problem that you have is related to something that you changed, the warranty is void.. ie: if you lower the car, bottom out, crack the oil pan, and blow the engine, your out of luck. thats what happened to a friend of mine with a vr6 gti.. if you do any intake/exhaust and have a problem with o2 sensors, or the ce light comes on, once again your out of luck..
p.s. the suspension on subaruparts.com does not lower the car. those springs are the same ride height as stock, just stiffer. so i went with v5 struts, and h&r sport springs
