View Full Version : What would cause AVCS to stop working?
So, about a week ago the AVCS on my 02 JDM WRX motor was still running. I was able to log timing on both sides and all that, but was getting a P1306 CEL code.
As of yesterday I reset my ECU, and AVCS stopped working all together, neither side is pulling timing at all, what could be the issue?

HndaTch627 06-06-2006, 03:44 PM AVCS works off oil pressure, maybe the valve controlling it is faulty. Also check for codes related to engine performance, usually when a vehicle has a code reflecting the emissions of the engine certain functions are disabled
The only code I have is a P1306: OVC Solenoid Valve Signal 1 Curcuit Malfunction(Open)
Signal malfunction, deals with wiring no? Thus, wiring issue? Bad ground?

HndaTch627 06-08-2006, 03:38 AM i would say wiring first, i know on Honda's the V-TEC spool valves only go bad if the motor grenades....so i'd say it's safe to check wiring, also check you oil level(i am assuming it's fine)
Oil level is perfect. I already had Subaru check that. I had a low oil light on...however the issue is that the Low Oil wire and the coolant gauge wire are mixed up. Soo... when my car heats up my oil light goes on, and when i have low oil, my car will read hot
That's getting fixed when I have a chance!
I was thinking wiring, originally AVCS was working fine, pulled timing on my data logger and everything, now however it just stopped.

Hyper 06-09-2006, 06:42 PM Ha!
Welcome to my world, my AVCS is still not working
what version wiring are you using?
subenick, can you expand on this one? I talked to Andre and he said it might help, so I tried adding a wire from intake mani ground to chasis ground, still no effect :(
subenick 06-10-2006, 11:15 AM thats basically what we did. andre did my wiring (complete v7 harness) make sure the grounded area is not corroded and such.
it could be possible that the ocv (solenoid) is faulty... and apparently it is not the same kind that our usdm sti's are sporting... so a replacement solenoid for v7 or v8 has to be obtained from japan.
just curious what kind of gas consumption are you guys getting when you lose your avcs.
on average (mix of cruising and booting it!) i get 10.5 L/100km with the avcs working.
Hyper 06-10-2006, 03:58 PM I can probably do 500 kms on the highway if I don't go past 120
city - 300 max
I tend to think it's a wiring issue that I have because the OCV values read low in my Delta Dash which indicates a ground possibly - but no one can find it!
SubasaurusWrex 06-10-2006, 08:00 PM i get 430 km to a tank city driving.
Ok, so my Low oil dummy light is on due to the wires for the coolant gauge and the low oil light being switched. Could the Low oil light be causing the AVCS to malfunction?

HndaTch627 06-14-2006, 03:14 PM if it ties into the ecu yes
It might tie into the ECU.
