Does anyone know where the back-up light switch is on a 97 Legacy OB? My back-up lights don't work any more, checked the bulbs and fuses, so that was going to be my next check but I don't know where it is.....

Anyone?

On auto tranies, most of the time, it's on the side of the trany, loke a sensor. On stick shifts, if it is not in the shifter gate, like a micro switch, it is also in the trans side.

A dealer should show you with their Micro-Fische (sp?) machine!

Good Luck!

There is a switch on the tranny to check but it's under the car. Best to pick up a Haynes and it will give you some info on how to check it. I have mine in front of me it's for Legacy 1990 - 1998. The ISBN number is 1 56392 326 2 The Haynes number is 89100. I have a 97 OB Legacy LImited and use it all the time. It actually helps me with the RS sometimes too. Lots of similar parts and Torque specs

The Haynes says:

the back up light switch is located on the left side of the transfer case, the Neutral start switch is also lacated here right behind the back up light switch.

To check the switch put the trans axle into reverse and verify that there is continuity (0 or low resistance) tehn put the transaxle in another gear and verify that there's no continuity)

replacement : Simply unscrew the old switch install the new (make sure the washer is installed and tighten to 16 - 19 ft lbs.

There is a pic here but it's pretty bad, looks like large nut with 2 wires coming out of it. It says to trace back to the connector and do the checking there iwith a meter

Hope this helps

I have a quick reference guide and the part isn't in there. Best to call Sugar (Lisa) from the vendors section. I'm sure she can help.
