View Full Version : Rear axle is stuck in hub..........really stuck

I have a 2000 Impreza 2.5 RS. I was getting a pretty bad bearing noise from the rear, so I decided it was time to replace both rear wheel bearings.

Well, the passenger side hub came right off, but the driver side axle has seized in the hub.

I have tried the following:

putting axle nut on and tapping it.

soaking in PB Blaster

then hitting the nut harder

then hitting it really hard

then, I attached a two-arm puller, and cranked like hell.

then, I heated the hub with my propane torch

then I hit the end of the puller screw HARD

I am out of ideas. Any input would be appreciated.

Tried that too. And it's a $700 air hammer.

Take the whole stinking thing off and press it out.

it has never failed to deliver.

I agree with the others, knock it out of the diff and press it out, just be carefull you dont flaten the threads.

Yea, crazy. It's a CP714. And that was 7 years ago! I was a body mechanic, and it's an awesome air chisel. Very controllable.

Thanks for all the responses. Can I just yank the axle from the rear diff? Or is there a retainer to be removed?

Thanks

Roy

Yes you can big boy. Just yank it. Be careful though, there's fluid in there and you don't want that getting all over.

yup, I'm pretty sick.
