I've read that a person got charged for the oil and filter replacement doing one of their warranty oil changes. Is this right? I'm about to do my first oil change, don't want to get duped by the dealer into paying anything that I'm not obligated to pay. Warranty includes parts and service both right?

Regular maintenances and mileages services(including oil changes) are NOT covered by the warranty. This also includes wearable items(brake pads, tires..etc)

Some dealers give you free oil changes as part of their service/contract, but I haven't seen one for Subaru yet.

Warranty includes parts and labor on warrantied (i.e. defective) parts. Oil is a comsumable, as GOT_WRX pointed out, along with brake pads, wiper blades, etc.

As of 2001, brake and clutch linings are covered by 3/36. Obvious abuse of course is not.

Free earl changes.........gotta buy a TT for that!

volkswagen will give you free scheduled maintenance.... but you'll be payin as soon as their 2 year warranty expires for all their electrical nightmares :D

Mine was, anything after that is regualr charge...but I have also heard from a tech that if your Windshield Wipers stink that you can complain and they will replace them for free within the 3/36. Honda does it all the time. Use that as fodder!!

Starting with the model year 2001 Subaru started warranting ALL wearable items (brakes, clutches, wipers, etc.) for 3/36. If the item's were abused its a different story.
A lot of dealers offer the 1st oil change free (we do). The only car that comes with paid scheduled maintenance is the LL Bean Outback.
