View Full Version : help me decide...
scoobywanted 10-15-2001, 03:56 PM I have posted this sort of thing before but it got kind of ugly. If you vote please just include a short resoning as to why you chose this model. Please do not criticize other peoples rides or cause hostility. I want this to be as friendly as possible :D

Ya gotta post a couple of other things, like what you want to do with it, how much moolah you have to blow, stuff like that. Otherwise all you will get is people posting about their preference, and it may not be applicable to you. Wagons, f'rinstance, are great for people who pack a lot of crap in their car all the time. I used to have a 94 L wagon, and could fit anything. Now I have a sedan, and can't fit those big monitor boxes in anymore.
hotsam 10-15-2001, 04:25 PM I said 99 OBS...because I used to have one. I put 40,000 hard miles in it and it had $10 in unscheduled maintenance.
Ghomer1 10-15-2001, 04:31 PM Cause I have one!!!! And they are dead sexy, pretty much the same as the 01
scoobywanted 10-15-2001, 04:41 PM Post your opinions around your situations. ie if you voted for wagon because it hold alot of stuff say so. I dont really care. I do surf but that isnt a problem. I have plenty of money for both. How about for their performance. I will swapping in a ej22t and building it like mad. will there be a big difference inhandling between the RS and OBS?
LordBass 10-15-2001, 05:20 PM Well, if you're swapping in an ej22t, then why not go for newest and most cargo room? Hence my vote of 00 OBS. Otherwise it'd be a 2000 RS. (2k RS has two LSDs and the stronger MAF, IIRC).
I would guess that if you have the $$ and knowledge to drop in an engine of that caliber you won't have much problem upgrading the suspension..
Search, search, search to your heart's content on that subject.

PsychO 10-15-2001, 05:30 PM Easy.......I voted for a 99RS.
1st, with the 99 (and also the 98, but read the rest plz), you can get the Rally Blue color. Which I honnestly prefer to the Blue Ridge. NOT THAT BLUE RIDGE IS A BAD CHOICE, no no no, but if you give me the choice between the two......I'll go for the Rally Blue all-the-way.
2nd, it's not a big deal, but with the 99, you get the SOHC engine. WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHH, a HUGE advantage of 3 lbs of torque!! But still, it's yours!!
3rd, well, with a 99, you probably have a lower millage.
Well.........you asked for it, so those are the reasons WHY I'd go for the 99..........and because I have a 99 Rally-B too.....but shhhhhhhht!! don't tell anyone
Flowmastered87GL 10-15-2001, 06:13 PM I took my first ride in I think a 2001 RS yesterday at the Hillsboro OR rally X, you know who you are, you took 2nd I think. Anyway that car flew compared to our 96 OBS. Basically I voted 2000 RS cause its the closest thing to that 01 RS. I would prefer an OBS with RS mechanicals though (brakes, suspension, engine). I like ability to carry stuff in the back.
stiguy555 10-15-2001, 07:45 PM I voted 99 2.5RS. It has the JDM front "bumper" instead of the 98s L model bumper(not very stylish). The SOHC engine has *4* more pound-feet of torque for your info(you know who you are), and is smoother, better midrange power, and slightly more efficent with fuel.:) Pick any color, except white, the white ones dont look so good after a few years.;) But really, any of those is a good choice! :)
scoobywanted 10-15-2001, 08:06 PM I hope i am not getting only the OBS owners to vote for the wagon. I want your honest opinions about both of them. I want you to pick the one you think is the most stylish with a bodykit? Just all ranges of reasons for picking each one. thanks for those who have responded.;)
Even though I own an 01 RS, I voted for a 00 OBS....why? because it would be one hell of a sleeper... ej22t, upgrades suspension, brakes, etc. pull up to a light, some ricer revs at you...drop the clutch, bye bye ricer....and you'll have his friends laughin' at him for the rest of his life! Of course, If I had an OBS, it'd be totally modded exterior included. :D
Bradus 10-15-2001, 08:47 PM You don't say much about your needs so it's hard for me to say whether or not a wagon is better for you than the sedan. Plus, you don't give much indication as to your financial situation.
If you don't need the added practicality of the wagon, and money is not a problem, I would recommend going for the newest most powerful sedan you can afford.
Cheers!
David
scoobywanted 10-15-2001, 09:16 PM i didnt think i was going to have to put a price on it but, i dont want to spend more than $35K on the whole car. So i think i can get whichever car i wanted. I only am still concidering on the other hand the legacy gt. but i really want an rs or OBS. I just want to know if the OBS handles as good as the rs.
totoherbs 10-15-2001, 09:26 PM 98 rs dual overhead cams make for happyer turbos
jlyttle 10-15-2001, 11:11 PM '01 actually, because of the power, looks and handling. To be honest, if they sold an '01 Impreza wagon with the RS treatment, I would have bought it.
scoobywanted 10-16-2001, 12:36 AM sweet thanks
LttLDGN 10-16-2001, 05:25 AM hrm... $35k... wow...
i would suggest a brand new WRX :D
you can get that incl taxes for ~$24 (bout how much i paid)
and have 11k in mods....(some wrx's are pulling 13's with under 1k in mods)
but..... from your choices.... i do like the OBS alot..... nice looking car.... not nearly enough of em modded.... would be nice to see a different car... *sigh* soon i know WRX's are going to be running rampant like civics
so much for the "exclusivity"
added bonus of OBS... low insurance :D
and welcome to our humble community :D

Do you live in Canada or Australia? I didn't think Subies ran as high as $35k in the US.

scoobywanted 10-16-2001, 12:36 PM I live in orlando Florida and the $35k is for the car and all the mods together.
