I bought my Subaru proir to Dec 2001, even though they did not say free stuff at the time.

where are the fine prints? If there's no fineprints with definite timeline, I'll go get one. I bought mine in April, which is obviously before December 2001 :)

This looks to be different from the free Yakima racks that they gave out a while ago.

It says Subaru outdoor accessories, so it looks like sedan owners are out of luck for the bike rack. (Is there a subaru roof rack option for sedans? )

and the others are attachments which would require the rails that come on outbacks and wagons.

Yep. Looks different from the IMBA deal all around: This one's offering Subaru parts, not Yakima stuff. If it's free, I might just pick up a roof rack for the heck of it:rolleyes:

Just called up the dealer - Carlsen - 2 minutes ago. They have zero knowledge of this offer.

Sounds like a promotional thing that only certain dealers are doing. Read the fine print. It says: "...visit this participating dealer..."

It takes nothing for them to participate. I have just call the other of the 3 dealers in the Bay Area - Stevens "Creep" - and they have no knowledge either. They, however, offers to call me back with info. tomorrow. I will see if that happens.

Carlsen claims that they have not read the Drive mag. yet. I think SOA jumped the gun and advertises the deal before notifying the dealers.

I believe this offers works like coupons from grocery stores. All the dealer needs to do is to register the car's VIN number and send the certificate in to SOA. SOA will then mail the free parts to the mailing address that you've filled out in the form. No sweat off the dealer's back.

Whoever has the magazine, would you please read a little more indepth? Besides "participating dealer" and "original certificate" veribage are of questions, what other restrictions are there? Besides purchasing the car before end of the year, is there a time frame? If not, this offer pretty much covers all us WRX owners who has subscribed to Drive mag.

The offer came in "Drive" magazine. I picked up my free snowboard racks. It is an insert and it had my name on it and the name of the dealership that I bought the car from. It must be participating dealerships, because mine knew exactly what I was talking about when I called.

I emailed SOA in regards to the offer, here's what they say:

Here is their 2nd reply after I emailed them again with the coupon attached in the email for their clarification:

the coupon that was received in 'Drive Magazine' was a regional
promotion. Unless you lived in one of the states in our Central region, you
would not have received this coupon.

We apologize for this inconvenience and hope that you can understand
our position.

I believe if enough of us email SOA, they will stir up some promotional offers for us.

Anyone know if Colorado is included in this offer? Also, how do I get the DRIVE magazine? Is it a dealer magazine or can you get it through the mail?

I called my dealer and SoA after receiving the same offer in the latest Drive(l) magazine. The answer I got from both my dealer and from SoA is that the certificate has to be presented WHEN YOU TAKE DELIVERY. Since I took delivery of my WRX in June, it looks like I'm SOL.

They also admitted that the flyer isn't very well worded. The SoA rep I spoke to said that the offer is basically Subaru's response to the flood of 0% finance offers on GM's and Fords.

It looks like the bottom line is "No free Racks for you". Oh well.

hmm....seems like a catch-22

You can only get the free equipment with a coupon from Drive.
You get a Drive subscription _after_ you buy your Subaru.

But you dont get the equipment unless you give them the coupon while buying the subaru.
So you havent gotten Drive yet, and dont have the coupon anyway.

sounds like someone at SOA didnt think this one through.......

I have not recieved my issue of drive as of today. I have had the WRX for about 3 months. I did get one issue about a month ago. Isn't it for a year? The subscription that is.

I got my offer in my monthly "Drive" magazine as well this month. I will be sending it in for the free bike rack.

Well, I just got back from my dealer with a free ski rack! I took my certificate and showed it to my salesman. We took it back to the parts department and I got my ski rack no questions asked. I took delivery of my Rex in July. Hmmm...hope they don't call me and ask for it back!

So far, sounds like the TX and the CO guys are getting it. Only for central regions, huh? I have emailed SOA twice as to what is in the works for the rest of us. They have not gathered any satisfactory answer for us yet.

I got my issue of Drive today and I have an insert with my name and my local dealers names. But it it NOT for a free rack, it is reward bonus for getting someone to buy or lease a Subaru between Oct 1 and Dec 31. If I refer someone to either of my local dealers, and they buy a car, they get a $100 LL Bean gift certificate, and I get a $150 LL Bean gift certificate.
I would rather have the rack, since I am a member of IMBA, but they ran out of bike racks.
Check your magazines out, there may be different deals in your area.

Mine had a thing in there to buy an extended warranty... whoo hoo... :monkey:

According to SOA, sounds like the free items are for current Subaru owners who WILL be buying another Subaru before year end. We all know this is not the case with some of us. Please their reply below:

Marketing promotions are handled by our regional offices. Each
regional
office decides what promotions they wish to offer. It is nothing to do
with
fairness. It is just the nature of our Marketing promotions.

Even if this promotion were run in your region of the country, you
would not
have been eligible for this offer. This promotion was to entice
current
Subaru owners to buy a new Subaru vehicle. It was not for those who
recently purchased new Subaru vehicles. If you were not a current
Subaru
owner, you would not have received "Drive Magazine" with this coupon.
You
would have needed to have the coupon addressed to you prior to your
buying a
new Subaru.

I hope that this further explanation is helpful to understand our
position.

Well, I got my insert and I ignored it. I thought it sounded like it was wanting me to buy another subaru to get the bonus rack. Anyway, I just want a storage rack, not a bike, ski or boat rack. I recently told my salesman that my wife might be wanting a new car soon. Maybe they entered us into a database at SoA and now they are trying to lure me in... Either way, she decided to keep her explorer.

I just picked up my WRX on August 31. I got the Drive mag in the mail and saw the coupon and called up the dealership that I bought the car from. The guys knew exactly what I was talking about. I just wrote my WRX vin on the voucher and went to the dealership, said that I wanted the ski racks, and they handed me a box with the racks in it.

You don't have to buy another Subaru to get the free stuff.
