This might be a stupid question, but I am just going to ask anyways. I live in virginia and the nearest ecutek dealer is about 4-5 hours away. I am putting a 20g turbo on my sti in the next month or so, and was wondering if it is safe to drive that far untuned? I plan on getting my stock injectors modified and as long as I have them flow tested, and they are fine, I don't really see the problem. I am looking at either going with ecutek or accessport(protuned). I know accessport has a couple of base maps for 18g turbos, but I am not sure about 20g. I thought maybe if they did I could throw on that map and then go get a protune for the accessport(I do realize this is a ecutek thread). plus the portune is only 1.5-2 hours away.

following the lead (and the flames  ) of those before me, I found this after searching (2.5l turbo tech) with '20g engine management':

No, it isn't a 'spot-on' answer, but as Unabomber tells us, there's opinions (eleventy kabillion if I recall  ) but few informatives. Coupla shops here seem like they could answer yer question directly.

Also, trusted tuner in Illinois:

Jorge or one of his henchmen should be able to give you an idea.

...OR, call the people yer about to entrust yer car to?

driving on the stock tune with moded injectors is not a good idea. You'll be spraying tons more fuel and you could wash the cyclinder walls. If you can, drive it to the tuning shop and install the injectors there. you'll be fine with the turbo running WG boost, but stay out of boost as much as humanly possible.

Either that or get an AP with a base map scaled to those injectors and run WG boost to the tuner.

If you go the EcuTek route then you can overnight your ECU to the tuner and he can flash a map on to your ECU to get you to where you need to be. I had to do the exact same thing when I recently got tuned except my drive was 7 hours.

If you go with an AP then they should be able to get you a map to download to your AP kind of like PDX Tuning does.

What ever you do don’t drive with those larger injectors you have a very good chance of fouling out your plugs before you get there along with the other problems mentioned.

Good luck!
