View Full Version : Hose Clamps All loose (WRX) Wheels 10-15-2001, 08:33 PM All the hoses on my WRX where Loose not one was tight to turn. I had my turbo leaking air and everything. Spent the whole day tightening them all. GRWRX 10-15-2001, 08:43 PM Were they very loose? How did you know it was leaking air? darrelltx 10-15-2001, 08:47 PM I think Wheels' day was made when they created the Warranty Issues & SOA Problems forum. He'll probably never visit another part of i-club again. :) Wheels 10-15-2001, 09:02 PM As part of my problem list with subaru my airbox wasn't locked inplace and some of the crap my airbox sucked in (water) prayed out onto the turbo. (this I have no idea how but it did and I have witnesses that saw this too. :) ) So anyway they said its because the hose clamp is loose and tightened it. I went home and every hose was loose. Snowphun 10-16-2001, 01:15 AM Do you have any idea of the factory specs for the amount of torque to apply to all the "loose" clamps you "fixed"? While they may have seemed loose, it's very possible that's how they're meant to be. A great example of this are the three bolts that support the strut towers that many people break due to over tightening. Maybe you'd get better results from your dealer if you didn't complain about *everything*. 50% of the threads in this forum are complaints from you. Loosen up! (pun intended). Paul Umm since when do you torque hose clamps and since when has a hose clamp ever been judged against a strut? The possibility of the clamps meaning to be loose is far from likely. For example leaking coolant from the hose that connects to the oil cooler near the oil filter, Also the chance of the hose from the power steering rack is extreamly high. Also the top hose on the rad was twistable too. Should all these be left undone? Very much dowt it. Imagine going arround a bend and the steering suddenly goes heavy and centers at any speed it can be a killer. How about a turbo with no coolant Umm need I say more??? If you can find any torque specs for the hose clamp on my car feel free to divolge the info. Man I should open a can of woop a$$ on you for even thinking such a thing. Every complaint I have made has been valid. I know of 4 or 5 other people on here who has seen and been to the dealership with me from I-club and seen and heard the lame a$$ excuses. They have used. I've a car that wasn't put together with that much thought or care. You come and say its me! GGB 10-16-2001, 11:51 AM Just wondering is this all happened when the weather get colder? or is it on certain batch of vehicle MFG in a specific time window? It could be a problem with the assembly line, may be a out-of-spec torque was applied? or may be the material used shrink a little due to cold temperature?? Snowphun 10-16-2001, 08:19 PM Umm since when do you torque hose clamps and since when has a hose clamp ever been judged against a strut? This is what's known as an example. It's relevant because it's possible to damage things when you don't know what you're doing. That said, if your hoses were really that loose, you've got bigger things to complain about than your warm trunk carpet, or your rotors that don't look pretty. been to the dealership with me from I-club and seen and heard the lame a$$ excuses From my experiences, dealers don't like people that complain about minor problems, and this is one of the ways they try to get you to go away. They don't care if you go away mad, just leave. I received similar treatment when I complained about my steering wheel being off center. Try another dealer? Try being polite and professional? I don't know if you've been pleasant or not, but your tone suggests you haven't. If you can find any torque specs for the hose clamp on my car feel free to divulge the info. Virtually every screw, nut in the car has a specific torque to be followed. I don't have my Subbie shop manual yet, but take a look in any good shop manual and the detail is amazing. Good luck. How about food poisening? Ever had a taste of it? I want to be able to bring my frozen food home and not have to throw my Ice cream in the bin because my trunk runs abnormaly hot. Or have to cook my frozen chicken because parts have began to get soft. I have a 7 month old son. Who I don`t want to be feeding refrozen food to. I could travel 45 mins in my old outback sport and not even have to give the frozen stuff a second thought. Now I have to watch the stuff I put in my trunk i had a can of body spray explode in my back pack because it got so hot. I'm not the only person for an aresol to go off in the trunk. My rotors are nothing to worry about? At 120 dollars a piece they are! As for torque specs. My dealer tightened my clamp on my turbo so tight he rounded the nut on them. Then he came with a story saying hose clamps come loose its the nature of a motor. They all do it. (WHAT B.S.) supermarkus 10-16-2001, 11:18 PM Don't do what I did to get my hoses tightend. I let my cousin drive my car with me as co-pilot, he proceeded to crash my car hard enough to warrant rebuilt heads, and dealer made sure all my hoses were nice and snug when they dropped the rebuilt engine in. 45 miles on the car before the accident. It's a crappy way to get your hoses worked on for "free". :( :( :( Hey cousin, you out there? :monkey: |
