View Full Version : Difference in a 95 L and RS? plurbe 10-15-2001, 08:51 PM What are the major differences between the two? Will most rs parts fit a L? plurbe 10-15-2001, 08:56 PM oh and one more question.........what are your thoughts on mobil one or do you suggest not using synthetics and just changing the oil myself? (the money isn't a issue) SoobATV 10-15-2001, 09:02 PM L: 2.2liter RS: 2.5 liter... most cosmetic parts will fit, as well as shifter stuff, I beleive suspension will fit as well. Hey, someone with an RS, type something, I'm gonna I shut up!:) Sean 10-15-2001, 09:02 PM Most structural and mechanical parts will fit any MY93-MY01 Impreza. Suspension, etc. Major differences is that the Impreza body panels were changed for MY97...so front bumper, fenders, headlights, hood, etc. will not fit the MY95 Impreza L. Also, for swaybars, you may not have a swaybar or swaybar mounts so you may need to weld mounts before adding a swaybar. Intakes differ...I believe intakes stayed the same for MY93-MY98 and then switched to a different sensor in MY99. Brakes are totally different but use the same mounting points. I just installed MY02 Impreza brakes on my MY98 Impreza with no problems whatsoever. Much better stopping power and I only needed new front rotors, calipers and pads (pull the old ones off and put the new ones on). The rear will require a lot more work. See http://wac.addr.com/auto/obs/disc/disc.html to switch the rear drums to discs. The shifter linkage is different, so you can't drop an aftermarket short shifter lever into an L linkage. But, you can buy a whole 2.5 RS linkage with a short shifter lever or purchase an STi or SPT short shifter that includes the lever and linkage and that will work fine. Send a PM to Subie Gal asking specifics...she just picked up an MY95 Impreza L Coupe for ProRally (or maybe an MY93, I forget). She's quite busy and gets a lot of PMs from horny guys looking for dates, so she may take a while to respond. But yeah, for the most part everything is interchangable, common sense notwithstanding. ;) You can't mount a swaybar with no swaybar mounts on the suspension. You can't drop an aftermarket LSD into the rear because, well, the LSD was introduced in MY00 or MY01. http://www.trunkmonkey.com/pics/lil.gif Fear the Trunkmonkey. (http://www.trunkmonkeyracing.com/) Sean 10-15-2001, 09:04 PM Just change the oil yourself and move to Castrol Syntec (what I use) or Mobil1. I use Quaker State synthetics for all gearboxes and Valvoline DOT3/4 synthetics for the brakes. http://www.trunkmonkey.com/pics/lil.gif Fear the Trunkmonkey. The automatics came in a 2.2L and had rear discs, and came with sway bars. The 5 sp came in 1.8L with rear drums and didn't come with sway bars. The 1.8's have holes to mount a swaybar though. One good thing about the 95 L is that it came with the single stage brake booster. And no ABS. At least, the 1.8's did. Of course the L's have single pot brakes, while the RS have 2 pot brakes. And the midpipes were different. But, the rear section was the same. That's all I can think of. redobs 10-15-2001, 10:44 PM Oh yeah, if you change your own oil, check out www.fumotovalve.com:) It's friggin awesome!! Seeing StaRS 10-16-2001, 03:00 AM ^ Agreed...very cool product Kostamojen 10-16-2001, 03:47 AM Mine has rear discs with ABS and is 5 speed. Also has foglights, pop from inside fuel door, but no sway bar or cruise control :( RS suspension will fit, you have to get the links that have the sway bar attachers on them though along with the chasis mounts, RS strut bars will fit, so will wheels for pretty much any Impreza, theres a intake silencer in the fender too that you might want to remove, etc. yuzo 10-16-2001, 09:19 AM why is it? i have an L , 5 speed , and a 2.2 liter. all the rs parts seem to fit mines (not that i have any, i've got all after market but they are all made for the rs and i'm guessing the L as well). i think the main difference is the size of the motor and the amount of horses coming out. oh yeah and the price./ my L-10,000.....rs-18000 (both prices are for brand new cars. None in the L. Or at least some of the L's.;) subachad 10-16-2001, 12:56 PM My L is pretty well equipped, (plurbe u've been in it I think), it has power windows, no ABS, rear drums, no rear swaybar (donations accepted), oh and a turbo :D Plurbe, lets put a turbo on your car, I can help you out with a decent kit for under $1000. Chad 93 1.8T Kostamojen 10-17-2001, 03:01 AM Ooh, ill take the turbo kit, but you will have to supply the $1000 :D STiTkacik: Did you get the OEM one and install it, or did it come on the car? Tkacik 10-17-2001, 09:05 AM It came with the car. plurbe 10-17-2001, 01:42 PM turbo.........hmm, maybe after i drop the ej20 engine in it (im sure the turbo your talking about is alot better then the stock turbo) and get a 5 spd conversion...........automatic isn't kicking it (but hell my parents went out and got me my first car so I could get to and from work and they came back with a White 95 L Sedan, bad thing is the 160k miles but it runs hella smooth still) --- the major downfalls are no power anything, tacky lookin interior (but clean),and no cruise control. Oh yea they got it for $3,700.......guess that isn't a bad price compared to all the other 95 impreza's i've seen for sale (dealer wanted 5,000) plurbe 10-17-2001, 02:09 PM i cant go to sema cause im banned from the lv convention center.........(notice of trespass) |
