View Full Version : Adding piston Oil Squirters?

Is it possible to add piston oil squirters to an EJ block? Assuming there was enough clearance, I don't know what problems I'd run into. What say you?
I'm building an EJ for boost, and since I'm a machinist, I keep on coming up with ideas that would be fun to try, if only for that reason..... :)

I figure if you tapped into an oil supply, piped it back into the oil pan, had stainless steel lines fastened securely, you might be able to get it accomplished. Yes, I would need to replace my oil pump. Would a 2.2T oil pump fit?

You can see where the squirters are located on this Saab engine: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/SaabTuner/B234R.jpg (upper left hand corner of each cyllinder)

They are tapped of the main oil galley. I don't have enough information to know, but it's possible there is an oil galley in a similar location on the EJ motors. If there is, and there is room, I would look into fitting them there before routing any stainless steel lines anywhere. :)

Your pistons will run cooler with oil-squirters. If you get forged pistons, you might try getting them a couple thousandths tighter than you ordinarily would since they shouldn't get as hot. But, that's just what I would do, so eh. ;)

it is possible done by subaru on ej22t look (axispowerracing) there are some nice pics. i dont know if it is possible to get the small valves from subaru any more i am looking for them myself, but the biggest changes is by you in the US in europe we only have 2,0 legacy turbo not 2,2. The valves have a spring and ball inside so oil squiting only starts around 30 psi ( iam not 100% sure off the pressure). I am not allowed to give you the hole adresse so check it out your self.

the 2.2 legacy turbo blocks have piston pil squirters installed from the factory.

i know they do. But what if I don't have or don't want to work with a 2.2T?

Then but your block up on a milling machine drill the holes using endmill and drill bits in main bearing 2 and 4 look at the pics off a 2.2T to see the location buy the small valves by subaru or use some from a john deere diesel engine they are almost the same but with out spring and ball that what i am planning.Or if you are a good machinist build the valves you self with a opening pressure around 30 psi holes ø 0,5- 1 mm not bigger use m6 or 1/4 inch bolts

Has anyone tried it back to back to see if they help at all?

I have a close deck 2.0lt block in a V10 spec c and have issues with cam control at low rpm, maybe right when the oil squirters start to bleed off, i have it apart now and in 2 minds maybe to block them up.

My block came with squirters. I removed them for my own reasons. Dont forget the oil squirter blocks had bigger oil pumps!.

yeah, but you would think the new spec c has a bigger pump too?

Saying that, they never made them to run both squirters and AVCS either!

I have seen what happens if the pipe breakes off on a mercedes turbo diesel so it is running with 5 squirters and 1 with out on a recond engine 3 months old the piston melthed and engine jamed the 5 other cylinders and pistons still looking like new.

squirtes has a valve so they only opens around 30 psi and the holes are very small so they dont ruin your oil pressure, the only reason they dont use them anymore is to save money as with closed and opened deck.

I checked with Subaru, and they can't seem to find the part number for the oil squirters. What is this about John Deere tractors having them? More info please...

Bugeyes,
Why did you remove them, if you don't mind me asking....

Does a 2.2T oil pump fit on other motors?

Info comming John Deere tractor 2130 or 2140 engine type 4239DL have small oil squirters put in the same way in the top of main bearings, the size is so a 7/16 spanner is used for removing them.
